Love is in the air (and along the fence LOL)

Over half the does are in heat today... (some didn't even want breakfast.. they wanted OUT... so they could spend the day flirting & teasing the bucks).. The bucks are loving the attention.. (How do I tell them all, that there will be NO BREEDING.. until Oct???) this weather has everyone confused.. it's suppose to cool down some this weekend.. I'm betting whatever does weren't in heat yet, will be soon...it's gonna be a long, loud, smelly couple of months

Fort Buck (girls can rub the entire length, guys can get their heads out, but everyone stays where they are suppose to)

I'll be breeding most of the girls to the yearling bucks Walker (blk with side splash) & Edge (the shorter guy with all the white & spots) Cold (the brown spotted buck will be sad, but I used him heavy last year..)

even the little girls were feeling *frisky* this morning..

Some how mine would figure out how to bred through that fence. I swear mine could do with each being in their own pen which is 30 feet away from each other. The only one I wish would come back into heat is one of the baby girls. She was due now but hasn't... sorta freaks me out.

This has been going on since the end of June!!!! Edith will come into heat.. then a whole group of them will... everyone will go out.. Edith comes in.. flirts with the boys.. everyone is in again.. they are ALL having regular cycles.. IF.. I knew we for sure we were going to have another winter (lack of winter LOL) like last year.. I'd be fine with Jan/Feb kids.. but I remember all those cold winter kiddings of year's past (back when I pen bred instead of hand bred, so no exact to the moment breeding dates- which meant actually having to watch & wait for does to kid... or the year of the huge ice storm.. trapped here, no electric, no water.. seven does due.. had to use a rope to slide from the backdoor to the doe barn.. the set of twins born without us there, one slide under the barn door and down the hill (saved by the LGD !!!! found him curled up licking the newborn).. that was also the year of our most horrid yearling birth (the cause of us no longer breeding yearlings!!!).. no way to get out to a vet, done by flashlight.. took forever, how we got that huge single buckling out.. without killing him or his mom.. I'll never know...

Do I like the way Jan/Feb kids grow off.. I do.. but not enough to ever go back to breeding for winter kids... I enjoy the spring kiddings/babies are so much more...

Again, Great pictures Susie & such beautiful goats! If I wanted full size nubians I would definately want some of yours in my herd!

I only have 1 doe I'll be breeding this fall since the 2 doelings I'm picking up next week will be too young/small yet. I do remember listening to the whining & crying for months because I don't like to breed them until the end of November or early december & I won't miss that this year.

I haven't sat down and counted it out... but we'll be breeding between 20 & 22.. I have 8 just weaned girls that won't be bred this year.. and I decided to retire Edith (she doesn't know it yet, nor will she like it.. but she is getting gimpy in a front leg and I don't want to make that worse.. and I always told her if she ever gave me twin spotted does.. she could live out her life here, as a lady of leisure.. this spring she had the smoothest pregnancy, easiest births she ever had.. with two SPOTTED doelings a and a really nice tons of white buckling... I kept all three) I really want to see what I get from Edge & Walker.. of course I'm hoping not only for nicely put together kids.. but I have my fingers and toes crossed for lots of blk & white spotted babies.. I can NEVER fill all the requests I get for spotted kids...

I'm actually having *cute* baby issues.. I got twin bucklings this spring.. raised them up (always planning on keeping one, selling the other).. they are now weaned and I *should* be deciding which to keep... but I like each one for different reasons.. and of course they are both super love-y, cuddle bugs.. so at this point.. I'm toying with growing both out to adulthood...
