Ok, lessee if I can handle math right now.
If you go to jefferslivestock.com and go to the packet, you can click 'view label info' it says that it is a salt form of sulfadimethoxine, and packet contents ends up being 94.6g sulfadimethoxine. Because the packet weighs 107g, this means that the other 12.4 g is weight from whatever is bonded to the sulfadimethoxine to form the salt form.
ANYWHO...
So if we do 94.6g/107g, we see that each g of the package contents contains 88% sulfadimethoxine - or the stuff we want to get IN the goat. That means we need to use 22% MORE of the powder by weight, to get that amount in the goat.
If it was straight sulfadimethoxine, we would weigh out .4g per 5lbs. (because we know the dosage of the 40% injectible. The 40% is equal to 400mg/ml. .4g = 400mg) But we want 22% more, so we multiply .4 x .22 = .088. .088 is how much MORE we need to give IN ADDITION TO the .4g. So, each kid should get .488g per 5lbs.
You can round to .49 or just go .5 probably with no issues.
Or, 1g per 10lbs would be an easier way to look at it.
I didn't do the math when I started using it, and I was doing .4g per 5lbs day 1, .4g per 10lbs days 2-5, and it worked fine.
Oh hey - packets of powder are on sale at jeffers - almost 2.00 cheaper than normal at 10.00 ea!
... Did I do my math well?
