Spike and Morag - Susie's dumped kids

John and I picked up Susie's dumped kids awhile ago. I dearly hope they do NOT have any communicable disease because I currently have nowhere to quarantine them as every available nook and cranny is stuffed with big bales of hay.

So, I built them a pen between my kids (Milo, Esme and Jimmy) and the white sheep family (Miss Maple, Gunnar and Arthur). I'm going to go on faith that everything will be okay. :op

Their ear tags are indeed scrapie tags; the Federal shield is on the underside of both tags. The breeder has a MO prefix, so they originated in Missouri. Barbara Burrows from my sheep list is something or other with the Federal scrapie program and she says if I send the numbers, she'll see what she can do about tracing the breeder.

The kids are cuties. The buckling (who will become a wether just as soon as they've settled in) is Morag and the doeling, Spike. Long story. If you want to read it, check out my public page at Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sue.weaver.writer

I will finish the next-to-last chapter of the dratted pig/pork book tomorrow, so I should be back to the forum again in about a week (yaaay!). In the meanwhile, here are some pics I shot of Spike and Morag tonight (I'll get those collars off of them tomorrow and replace them with breakaway collars). They aren't very good because it was getting dark and I had the long lens on my camera.

BTW, it was so much fun to meet Susie and Jessie tonight. Zane is fantastic! What a gorgeous baby. :o))))

They are adorable! I think you did a great job with their pictures to by the way & Thank Goodness you live close enough to Susie & had the space to give them a good home.

So happy they are all settled in.. it was wonderful meeting you & John.. once it cools off, you have to come back and spend longer.. we have a lot in common.. Thank you so much for the books.. We are still rather shocked to find out someone else thinks Howard (the mini donk) is a good looking fellow LOL... (Since I'm not sure Zade ever actually got his eyes open for you to see how big & blue they really are -he was NOT a fan of the sun LOL- I posted several pics of him (and of the does) earlier today...

again, thank you so much for taking them... (I really would like to satisfy my curiosity about who did the dumping, so if you ever find out any info from the tags.. please let me know (I'm sure everyone on here will be just as curious)

Yep, Zade opened his eyes. Kinda squinty because the sun was so bright but he opened them. He's the age when all babies are cute but he's *extra* cute. Mom and Grandmom should be proud!

Howard would show very well in gelding classes. His top line is uber-primo and he has a great leg set, plus a very pretty head.

I'll let you know what, if anything, Barbara finds out about the tags. The fact that they're tagged in opposite ears says to me that either the breeder raises a lot of kids or s/he has a goodly number of sheep because tagging opposite ears on opposite sexes is pretty standard in the sheep community where you have a lot of animals that superficially look alike and you want to tell the sex of lambs at a glance.

Introducing these guys will be interesting--Spike (the girl) and Jimmy the Munchie most certainly do not like one another and keep bashing heads through the fence. I'll have to supervise as Jimmy is a dirty fighter--he doesn't swoop and bash like most goats, he stands his ground and repeatedly bashes: wham*wham*wham*wham* all over his opponent's body. So far he's singled out sheep. Some of my sheep wethers don't take much do-do and there have been some hairy/wooly battles. I'll have to make sure he doesn't hurt Spike.

BUT they won't be together until Morag can no longer shoot little wigglers as the last thing we need is a bunch of half-Nigerian kidlets. =:op

Cute kids! At least from the head shots they look healthy enough.
