Goats are Coming Tomorrow!!

It feels like I've been waiting for this day for so long! I started researching at least a couple years ago, contacted and reserved the goats months ago, and now the day is finally here!

The barn isn't 100% done, but we have their outside and inside pens ready. We'll have to pour concrete and do the plumbing and electric after they're here, but that shouldn't be too tough to do since we'll hardly need to go near their pen to do it.

My Hoegger order came in on time, I have all my supplies here but I need to unpack tomorrow and get my milking equipment washed up and sanitized and ready.

All that's left is to put some bedding in their pens (straw or shavings or a combo of both??) and fill up the feeders for them, then pick them up!!

Will post pics Wednesday morning of the new barn and of course the new goats (since if I don't post them they don't exist of course!). Just wanted to say another THANK YOU to everyone on these boards! Those that answer and those that ask questions, as I've learned almost everything I know from you guys.

Oh, and in case anyone's wondering, we have 2 - 4 month old LaMancha bucklings coming, and a 2 year old LaMancha 2nd freshener and a 3 year old LaMancha that freshened with triplets this spring coming. We're picking them up late tomorrow night, so wish me luck that the transition goes smoothly!

Congratulations! Very exciting time & really looking forward to seeing your new little herd!
Are you wethering one of the bucklings for a companion for the buck or keeping them both intact?

We're going to keep them both intact, that way there's breeding options.

Not yet! We don't get them until tonight, in 12 hours from now I'll be a proud goat mommy.

So you'll have to wait one more day for pictures.... well...maybe a day and a half as I'm exhausted and probably won't be taking pictures at 8 am tomorrow morning. Wish me luck with milking though tomorrow, even though I've researched everything and know exactly what my management routine will be, I feel like everything has suddenly flew out of my head!

I hope they take the move well. They're coming from Manitoba to here, so a couple provinces away. Is there anything I can do to help them with the stress of the move (other than treats and lovin on them?)

I usually worm them and give them some probiotics to help with any tummy upset they may get. Other than that you're probably golden.

Awesome, thanks! I definitely planned on deworming them tomorrow, but was wondering if I should give them some Probios or if that would be overkill. Either way it won't hurt them so might as well!

Congrats

Suggestion based on unfortunate experience - if they're coming after dark pen them securely in a small area overnight so they don't go running around in the dark and run into or through fences and get hurt.

Thanks Cliff, we have a coyote problem here so I plan on locking them up at night anyways, so my plan was to load them straight into their indoor pens. Good advice though!!
