QUESTION OF THE DAY: Do I shoot....

my drunk bad dog owner neighbors?
....... (you know the ones I have shot their dogs?)
or the coyotes?
Or maybe ....BOTH!!!!!!

So, now I suppose you want to know the story? Ok"! But just be careful because this might turn into a VENT!

My LGD was guarding against the coyotes last night. He has done an amazing job! But my (trying to keep my language G rated) ... neighbors kept making noises of their own and it was almost like they were trying to call my LGD down to their place... So, I put my LGD on a cable (by the goat pens)so he wouldn't get tempted to go down there and get himself in trouble and give them an excuse to cause more trouble for me....
Well, I missed the bullet.... or actually, my baby goats missed the coyotes... When I got up this morning, right in the middle of the drive way, about 10 feet from the corner of the pen the babies were in, was a couple piles of coyote poops.

I have been working only an hour or so a day on the fence because of the heat and of appointments my foster kids have, but I am going to have to put the fence #1 priority this evening... There is only a couple more spots where he and the babies can get out (funny how a 180 lb LGD can fit through the same size hole as a 20 lb goat). Then I have another pen I have to rearrange so the boys are still protected but not be in with the girls...

**Trying to figure out what the coyotes are doing though.... they could've easily grabbed a baby last night.... maybe my hubby scared them away when he went to work? Do any of you know the behavior of a coyote? I remember a few of you saying that they will test/learn your schedules and stuff like that...

I would your husband and your LGD pee all over the area that coyote just poop. I have been seeing the poop closer to my house also. I am looking hard for a LGD with no luck so far.

Yeah! KILLING SPREE!!!!!

Okay. Maybe not but it's fun to dream. I'm so sorry you have coyotes and jerky neighbors. Can your dog get out in the area where the neighbors are baiting him? Can you accidentally spray them with coyote urine? Oh...wait...sorry. Killing is bad.

Every local population of coyotes is different. Some never attack domestic livestock, some always do. Around here it is nearly unheard of for coyotes to attack domestic livestock or pets. Of course around here folks hunt 'yotes with hounds.

Shoot 'em. The coyotes, not the neighbors, tempting as that may be.

I agree with having you hubby and LGD urinate around the outside of the fences if you can.

I think that you should fence out the dogs and coyotes, and shoot the neighbors. But that's just me.

I know that raisins kill dogs pretty quickly leaving no toxins in there system. I would think that it would work on coyotes. Just a thought. They will do nothing to the neighbors

I know you wish you could shoot the neighbors & if I lived their I may be tempted too but you better stick with shooting the coyotes!
I do think it's a good idea to have the dogs & hubby pee all around your perimeter fencing.

Fix the fence & put the LGD in with the goats.

Wonder what's wrong with your stupid neighbors, people like that really irritate me! It's like they have no sense at all!

Raisins kill canines? I din't know that....

so much to do still, with foster kid visits & court about the baby I am getting on Tuesday, I haven't been home much. But I got more of the fence done, but had to figure out a different set up for the babies... I don't want to tempt bad fate again, so I locked them all up in the horse trailer. All of the pens are now accessible to the LGD, but they are not in together...

I should have the fence done tomorrow... hopefully before the 7th birthday party for one of the kids! I can't believe I have had them about 2 years now...

Raisins in somewhat limited quantities don't kill dogs... at least not my dog. I have a 18 month daughter that seems to take delight in feeding the dog raisins. I try to keep a handle on it but some sneak by and it hasn't killed her (dog) yet. If she eats a couple small hand-fulls it will give her some icky consequences though...

(sorry for the drift but i wanted to make sure we were not propagating misinformation)

Raisins and grapes can cause renal failure in canines. It mostly depends on weight, so it would take a lot less raisins to kill a coyote than it would to hurt your LGD
