Sold two of Penny's kids.
So I put an add on CL for 2 of Penny's kids. One little chocolate brown doeling, and on moon spotted buckling. 5 weeks old. $75 each.
The doeling was picked up the next day. $75with no haggling.
The buckling was picked up three days later. The man who bought the buckling wanted him wethered and asked if he could bring his children along to see my set up as they were just getting into goats. I gave him a print out on how and where to give shots, and trimmed his wethers little hooves, while every one watched. And every one got to go out and see my herd sire, and Penny and the other goats too. I answered a bunch of questions. We just about had a party it was so much fun.
They were picking up another wether on the way home from my place. They had done their homework and were not going to get just one goat. It couldn't have gone better. And the man paid $80 for the time and the wethering, although I did't ask.
When I sold my two wethers last year, I only got $50 each. They just weren't selling for the asking price, and they had to go. I liked this year better!

That's great! I'm glad he was interested in goat care too. I hate when you sell and the people basically tell you that it will be a ditch goat and will probably never be wormed or have hoof care. It sounds like you found him a good home.

Congratulations!
I wish our luck was as good. I have 3 gorgeous little doelings, and can not find buyers for them. Everyone wants registered goats, and our little ND's can't be registered. Personally, I'm happy with our healthy, happy, non-papered little milkers, but people would rather pay three times what I'm asking for the registered goats. I have no real issues with those who want to show and raise registered goats; I just thought there were more people out there who were like us, interested in good family milkers. We did manage to sell the little runt girl as a pet/companion goat to a nice family who has a lonely pygmy wether. We're only getting $50 for her, but I know she's going to a nice home where they know what they're doing and will take excellent care of her.
Sorry for venting. I am just a little jealous, I guess. I am glad that you found good families for your little one.

Why don't you live closer to Wyoming? I've been looking for exactly that and all I can find is NDs that people are charging an arm, leg, and first-born child for just because they're registered. Never mind that these goats are afraid of people so probably haven't had any health care

If your putting them on CL, make sure you have "Goat" in the title. I was browsing CL, and started putting breeds of goat with-out goat in the search bar, and a lot of ads came up. I wondered how many of these reached buyers who only searched "goat".
When I sell stuff on Ebay, I search closed auctions for what I'm selling to see how similar items sold. Then I copy closely the adds that sold for the most. There is a reason companies spend millions of advertising.
I also took a couple of pics with my dd holding the buck to show how adorable and cuddly he was for the cl add.

Thanks for the suggestions. At first, I put "goats" in the subject line, but then when I searched using just "goat," the ad didn't show up, so I changed it to "goat." I also included the breed in the title. I put up the cutest kid pics I have. Unfortunately, my human kids are smelly young men now, so I don't think adding them in the pics would add much of a cute factor. Eventually, we will find homes for them, I'm sure. It just gets a little frustrating sometimes.

CL search only searches for exactly what you put in, not partial words. I have noticed people around here have started adding a line down at the bottom of the ad.
for example-
goat, goats, nanny, nigerian
Thinking I might do that next time.

Sounds like your babies are going to good homes Mrs.H & that's always a great feeling!
Learninglife, I sure wish you were closer too. I could have sold more goats this year but have no more to sell. The goats we have now are not registered & we've never had registered since these are just pets for us & we Love them dearly. I've been lucky in finding good homes for our kids & this year am really happy with the lady that's buying 5 of my adult does since now we are going to get registered.
There's nothing wrong with unregistered goats & just because they have tatoo's & papers doesn't mean they are going to be any better milkers or friendlier, better momma's or herd sires. What's most important is healthy, disease free & friendly, easy to handle goats! Those people where you live don't know what they are passing up.
In you CL ad be sure & put what vaccinations, wormings, coccidosis prevention done, etc. I've found the more information you give the better.

They were already in his truck and paid for. I offered to go in and get their records and he told me never mind because they'll probably never be wormed because he wasn't paying for some special goat wormer. I handed him a tube of Ivercare and said that should last them a while. He seemed more responsive to worming etc after that. They were my first sale. I'm a bit pickier about who goes where now. Mostly I just keep them all. That's why I have 18 goats

We all know & love your goats. I surely didn't mean for my response to sound snarkey in anyway andabigmac so forgive me please if I offended you.

I didn't take it as snarkey I hate the goat selling learning curve. I did hear from a friend that he fenced a large portion of his field for them and they're looking pretty good. They were nice little doelings. Maybe I shamed him a bit into not treating them like they were just weed whackers. Selling those two are one of my big regrets. Live and learn... *heavy sigh*

Yup and my pasture doesn't grow anything so they are fed hay. That's why I'm always freaking out about my feed bill.

I can just see my photo for that. My cute dd standing over the wethers with a fork and knife with a bib on that read "BBQ YUM!"
