Mrs. H -
WADDL does testing for CL and Johnes. Blood tests for those two are not as accurate as the abscess pus culture to rule out CL, or the fecal Johnes test. No one blood test is definitive, but one gets a better and better feel for their herd health with successive tests.
Personally, I'm switching to doing CAE ELISAs 1x yearly, and Johnes pooled fecals 1x yearly. Both through MSU's DCPAH because I work there and can deliver samples.
I will still be testing for CL through WADDL on all incoming stock for at least 3 successive blood tests. I test pre-purchase, after 3 month isolation (pre introduction to the main herd), and then a year or so later. Usually in the testing world, three sucessive neg tests can be considered pretty darn accurate.
Probably won't continue doing yearly CL tests on the main herd because I'm essentially paying 10.00/goat (for JUST CL!) to get answers I already have. Never had an abscess here, and we run over 20 goats... that's a lot of money. I still think it's worth it for incoming stock, but definitely not worth it on stock I've had for 11 years and I KNOW are *still* negative because I don't take 'em anywhere and practice strict biosecurity.
