We almost lost one of them this morning, I had a bunk feeder that I took all my pepper plants out of to see if it would make feeding them easier, it was at first glance but then miss piggy was laying in it to hog the feed and unkown for a couple hours she couldnt get enough traction in it to get up and out and was in the direct sun. I was scared when I first found her because she was so hot, had peed and pooped on herself laying down but after cooling her down with the hose (which she didnt fight) she came back around. The bunk feeder was promptly traded for some oats from my neighbor.

They are still looking pretty thin but I know you'll have them in great shape in just a bit more time. Big improvement in that nubian doe already! Boy, does she have some nice long ears!

Are these new goats for you? Or has the heat just been that bad? My old draft dropped noticable weight this week with the heat wave...

these where some that the owner left her husband, he wanted the goat until he found out that they required care then he simply quit caring for them. The Nubian doe has a twin sister her that is just awesome and fat as a hog. I am about a week from having them a full month. This heat has hindered their recovery and the fact through unavoidable circumstances I has to change feeds three times last week. Now they are one whole oats cracked corn, barely with alfalfa pellets as I can fine that anywhere.

How are they doing mentally? Are they settling in, or are they still distressed?

Your feed bill must be outrageous! They're all so lucky to have you. Keep up the good work.

I am so glad you took those goats in. Wow... those pictures rip at the heart. Why do people think goats need no care? I run into it all the time... "You're going to feed that hay to goats??? What a waste!" "I've never fed my goats a thing, don't believe in worming either." And so on. It rankles me and I just have to disengage and put those people on my don't-sell-to-or-buy-from list.

Looks like you have some hardwoods there. I would get a cheap pole saw and knock down a few lower leafy limbs every day. Good or your trees and the goats love them.

When the goats are done with them you will have a nice pile of kindling.

they have settled in well except two does who can't figure out which one has the harder head. I'm going through about 600lbs of feed every two weeks or 140 bucks but with my neighbor finally having oats cost will go down considerably. I have woods thick with yummy goat brush but they won't go browse far enough in the woods to get the most benefit unless I walk with them. I found alfalfa rye mix that I hope helps cut cost
