Got new buck!!!

So I was looking for bucks to breed our doe this fall. Not much luck finding anything as most folks will not breed strange does or the buck is very low quality, etc. Buying was an option but i just couldn't spend a fortune. So saw an ad for a "free" dairy buck. The pic actually looked pretty nice. So I emailed and it turns out he is owned by a long lost friend of mine!!! I hadn't seen her in about 15 yrs. She kept him & a few does mostly for milk to feed her puppies (she raises dogs) and is just tired of milking. The buck is a purebred reg'd lamancha supposedly from nice bloodlines. She would not only give him to me, but also sign over his papers!!! So today we went to get him. It's about a 2 hr drive and he rode well in the back of my hatchback car. He is pretty huge and I guess I didn't realize how big he would be but luckily he is very tame and he just laid down and hung out in there. The only bad part...he has some nasty scurs so we may need to keep those trimmed down. But he is super tame, walks on leash, my kids thought he was pretty awesome and he was gantle with them petting him, etc. I will try to get pics tomorrow. We have to go scrub the car out now!
GoldenWood Farm and Ford Zoo like this.

I don't think he is in rut just yet. He doesn't smell super horrible. We lined the hatch with old feed sacks and old towels. He just laid down altho he did poop ALOT!!! And he kept popping his head over the back seat to check out my kids. They thought this was great fun and I'm pretty sure the buck got a fair share of thier corn chips. LOL. I thought about taking the truck and stock trailer but it seems like overkill for 1 goat plus the fuel would be way more than my little chevy HHR which runs on flex fuel (ethanol or gas). OK, so I'm cheap...

I will try to get some pics tomorrow. I also have to make sence of the papers. She gave his papers plus an extended pedigree thing. All I know is all the bucks have *B or +*B and all the does have 2*M and one has 1*M. The extended thing has just a ton of codes and I am clueless.

Congratulations!

On a side note, I'd test for CAE if there isn't a current test on him. Also, be sure to worm him......the stress of the move, plus it being summertime, you want to illeviate as many problems as you can.

Sounds like you got a really great deal!
