Finally broke down and did it...

Been trying to sell Crackers and Seeker for the past 2 months with one response of "uhhh how big are they" and then nothing...
So I took em to auction today, broke my heart seeing some of those goats there and no I did not buy! But I used the opportunity to educate my mother on CL lumps goat udders, teet size, and some of the different breeds that went through.
Good news they got sold to same person for a little over $200 which was more then I was asking for outside of auction.
And my remaining bucks Shaq, Monkey, and BamBam aren't getting horned at feeding time, Shaq and Monkey are actually playing, and BamBam isn't yelling at me.
Most likely they are gonna be meat at least Seeker the wether to bad about Crackers though he came from very good milking lines but gotta do what I gotta do, since I want to concentrate solely on my nubians.

Sorry am a bit sad so am rambling...

Aw, darn... I know it can be hard to sell off stock, but you know you did the right thing by how well everyone is getting along now.

Still, you get attached to the little blighters...

{HUG} I'm sorry you're sad.

I'll be doing the same thing soon. I'm still building up the courage. Sorry you had to do it though.

I've not had to take any to the auction barn before but I'm sure it's hard to see the animals there but like Pony said things are running much smoother with your other bucks now so you know it was the right thing to do.

I didn't have to sell at auction, but when I went out day after I sold mandy last week and saw how everyone was so HAPPY, it sure helped!

hugs for you but sounds like you did the right thing.

I am in a similar boat, only with horses. I had no problems selling my wethers. But I need to cut my horse numbers by 3 or 4 and an auction is a horrible deal for them cause they many times bring nothing and you end up owing commission on them.

That's terrible. The auction house nearest to us do do a few horses but not so many, so they actually sell pretty good, a donkey went for sell the day I was there for $900.

Goat Servant, I can see that happening to us. Most of what I have are TWH's, some of which are paints. It doesn't matter. I need to sell them from the farm, at least I will get something for them even if it is pennies compared to what they are worth. I just don't have the hay.

I thought I was going to have to send my one troublemaker doe to auction too. I didn't really want to sell her to anyone as a milker because in spite of nice long teats she had tiny tiny orifices and was a lot of work to milk. I didn't want to keep her as breeding stock because she had bad feet and horrible teeth (this is the doe with the "redneck smile" I posted about in the past. She was down to one incisor and it had to be snipped off on a regular basis because it was cutting into her top gum). I didn't want to eat her because she got Ivomec+ when we had the run of lice go through the herd. Then I saw a Craigslist ad for someone wanting a dairy type doe as companion for her doe, because wether companions weren't working out for her. $125 later she got her companion and I got one less mouth to feed. I couldn't be happier with the results. My herd is happier now too as that doe was herd queen until I bought Madeleine. Then Madeleine took over herd queen status and Oreo bullied every other goat in the herd whenever Madeleine wasn't looking.

Now if I could just find homes for four pesky wethers, or figure out how to make room in my freezer for them, things would be even calmer.
