Does pasteurizing milk...

kill CL? I was reading the thread about the little girl (I am certainly going to be praying for her), and I was curious if pasteurizing milk would kill CL or not. Anybody know? Thanks

If you have milk goats with CL, they should be culled. Killed. Disposed of.

I've looked for any reference that says the organism absolutely will or will not be killed by pasteurization, but haven't found anything specific.

If any of my goats came back positive for CL they would be culled immediately. I was just curious about whether or not pasteurizing the milk would have any effect on the disease just for the sake of knowing. So it sounds like it is kinda up in the air regarding whether or not it actually does. Man, that really stinks cause now the curiosity is gonna drive me nuts LOL. Thanks for the reply Alice

I did find a couple of sites that said CL was one of the reasons to pasteurize, but given that pasteurization does NOT kill Johne's, I'm not going out on a limb and say it works for CL. Just too risky.

My hubby is immune suppressed, so I'm a little careful about making claims on important scientific/medical issues. I understand the implications of making a mistake!

Yeah, my first thought was in line with Alice's comment: Pasteurization does nothing to kill Johne's, so I wouldn't bet my life or anyone else's on it to kill off CL.
