Exclamation I mixed up my own goats trying to explain my herd :(

This is not big in the scheme of things, but I was trying to tell some one about my tiny herd, and mixed up my does. So this is to help me remember, and tell about my herd. If any one else would like to join in and talk about their goaties that would be great.

Buck: Gregory (dh named him after himself) Nigerian Dwarf. Dark brown and white paint with blue eyes.

Wether: Bucky! Dh's idea again Alpine (Son of Sadie)

Oldest doe: Penny, around 6 yrs. Nigerian Dwarf. She was copper colored when we got her, so the kids wanted to name her Penny. Of course now she's not copper colored anymore. She kidded out with triplets 2 weeks ago. 2 does and one buck. All three were dis-budded today. I plan to separate the kids from Penny for the first time Monday for once a day milking.

2nd Doe: Sadie Yearling. registered Alpine. Bought her with her buck on her, (wether Bucky, see above.) I separate them and milk her out once a day. She is averaging 4+ lbs a day. I plan to wean him next month and go to 2x a day milking.

Well I hope this helps me keep it strait next time!
I mess up my children's names and birthdays when talking about them too. I was there when they were born, my dh and I named them, you would think I would remember!

I have the same problem, as toooo many goats have come and gone in five years. When they have multiples and you can NOT keep them all, the numbers mount up.

We have:
Orange, Alpine, herd queen
Lemon, Mini-Alpine, daughter of Orange
Aster, Alpine Saanen, daughter of Orange
Bella, Alpine, daughter of Orange (I am noticing a trend here)
Bucking to be named later, Alpine/Saanen/LaMancha, son of Aster (thereby grandson of Orange)
Prince Charming, buckling, Alpine/LaMancha/Saanen, grandson of Orange and Princess (acquired from Emily/Ozark Jewels many years ago)
Tonto, buckling, MiniAlpine/LaMancha, son of Lemon and therefore grandson of Orange.
Cassie, MiniMancha, NOT related to Orange.

I'm going to have to rename my herd. Quirky Orange Goat Farm.

Wow.

Yes, that would be slightly embarrassing showing off a goat with it's purple ribbon and forgetting it's name! So to prevent that, I will talk about my goaties, too.

Andy- Little over a year old Alpine LaMancha. Sweet, very mature for her age. She's often too busy to play. It's serious buisness, being a goat. She loves to hang out with you, but prefers quiet conversation to mindless play. She comes like a dog. Call her once, she pops her head up, and looks for you. Call her again, and she comes racing over for pets (and of course treats! )

Thomas Hunter- Andy's kid. He's more of the strong and silent type. Right now he's angry with the world. As soon as he's a wether, he should friendly up again.

Rain- Our latest addition. She is a replacment for Caris. She is Alpine, LaMancha, Nubian (All three ear types!) and even though they didn't say, we're thinking saanen. You'd have to see those ears! She LOVES to play. You set her down outside her pen and run, she's quick to follow. After you wear her out, she loves to be held. Hold her, and she's happy. She'll sit in you lap as long as you let her. Come to think of it, she would probably make a good cuddle buddy for sneaking inside. Ahha! My latest plot! Sneak the goat in the house without anyone noticing...

My daughter bought me my first 2 goats 4 years ago. Two years later she argued that I had their names confused-"Mattie" and "Dottie" (Dottie for the dot on her tail, but by then they both had the same dot! Sisters of course) But I had the labeled pictures to prove it!

I also confuse my childrens' birthdates verbally sometimes, but I deserve some slack there- 8/14/89 and 6/14/90-"Irish twins"!! Believe it or not, the TV happened to be on The Bill Cosby Show when both were born.

Well, I have 12 children and WAY MORE goats. So, I will no bore you with either. However, when yelling at my children over the years I have had a tendency to start at the top and get to a point of frustration and then point at them and say, "You KNOW who you are!"

try adding 17 white goats to your herd who you used to ID by collars until one of your original goats doesnt like other goats to have collars and removed half of them.
So far I have my four original
Chloe-my favorite doe hands down, the only black and white one
Cuddler my anti kid (human) doe
Faith Cuddlers daughter
Hope-faiths half sister

Newbies
Jane- has a daughter I think is Elliot maybe Daphanie
Clover- my pick of the saanens conformation wise
Sophie - hard to tell if her or clover is the pick
Elliot- either daughter to the doe I had to die unexpectedly last year or Janes daughter
Daphanie same as above
Tuesday - nice doe has promise
Prim- full sister to Hope (Nubian)

Now the fun today is figuring out which of the 10 kids went to which moms since they had a communal nursing ring going on, thankfully they where born at several different times and the closest ones together are boys.

JBarGFarmKeeper, I have a friend that has 14 kiddos and I have tried to get her to get a cow to keep enough milk around for all those kids. I told her I would teach her and the kids how to milk and she wouldn't have anything to do with it. She is a full blown city girl living in the country. Can you imagine her milk bill.

Cannon Farms, you will get those girls straight soon.

I only have a couple of goats and the first set of goat started out with cartoon names due to the 3 year old granddaughter. We have Dora, Diego and Tinker Bell. This years kids are Lil Diego, Rose, Tulip(Yen) and Yang. Yen and Yang were black and white, f/m and we were so creative when we named them so we changed Yen's name to Tulip, following flower names, again grandkids idea. Next years baby names should be interesting.

I too have too many goats to do it. Some do not even have names either because I do not plan on keeping them, have not thought of a good one or just too lazy lol. So some are Wattle White, Scratchy's girl, etc.

One goat chose his own name and no matter how hard I try to change it he will only respond to Dummy
When he was a bottle kid he would get stuck on the trampoline and could not find his way out of the net and would run around screaming, so I would have to get him off and would say " You are such a dummy.'
Or he would get his head stuck in the cat door to the garage and I would have to get his head out, sometimes taking the entire thing apart and would say... " You are such a dummy."
So that is what he thinks his name is 4 years later and will not respond to anything else, sigh.

Even though some do not have names I know who they are, who their dam is and can tell you who is yelling by the sound of their voice. I also remember their birth order. I might be a little goat nuts, lol

I only have 6 human kids and I do that. If I am looking at you in the eye and say someone else's name you are expected to answer anyway.

I actually have a goat we call no name as I just have not decided what to call her yet. She is only a year old. And may end up being sold as she is a bit skitish.

Tilly- brown moonspotted Nubian. In charge of meet and greets.
Pickles- white w/ a peach head and bum. Eclectic heritage. My favorite. Don't tell the others.
Skwiss- white Saanen. Destroyer of gloves.
Loretta- Black roan w/ white band. Bi-polar Nubian. Going bye-bye asap.
Tammy- Brown Nubian. She's just...awkward.
Jem- Brown Nubian. What a hot mess.
T.C.(Trouble Causer)- Redishy Nubian. Name says it all.
Fulla- Black w/white band. Loud, loud, loud. But sweet.
Frolic- Pickles' daughter. Eclectic heritage. Peachy colored. B.S. free.
Gambol- Frolic's brother. Worthless wether, buck buddy, frequent prison rape victim.
Amber- White w/ light red head. One horned coven leader. Going bye-bye asap.
Murderface- White angora. Second in command of the coven. Going bye-bye asap.
Poppy- Typical colored boer. I have smarter houseplants. She's either getting balls on her horns or she's going bye-bye.
Jagger- Black w/white band. Nubian buck. May be shooting blanks...
Kaw-Liga- Red Nubian buck. Baby Daddy to Ali, Killbox, and Prima
Ali- Red Nubian. My only keeper so far this year.
Killbox- Frolic's boy. Packing up for freezer camp.
Prima- Loretta's doeling. Killbox's camp buddy.

Bless you people with so many human kids! After having 2 children, I don't know how there could be enough room in my heart for more (and that's not a bad thing).

I have always admired women with big families. But being a grandparent is a whole other story!! We have 4 with another on the way! Dh And I always joke that we should have skipped being parents and went right into being grandparents! But now we are older, more relaxed, and work less.

Babies are truely the miracles of our lives!!

That's funny. We tell folks the only reason we had kids was for the grand-babies! If we could have skipped that step while maintaining a family resemblance...
Just kidding of course! I'm very proud of my three children. And praise the Lord that none of them are like me at any of their ages!
