Welded Wire?

Will welded wire with 4 by 2 holes work for goats? We don't have any bucks, just two does and a wether, and we need inexpensive fencing for them.

You're typically better off with woven wire. The welds will eventually break on the welded wire.

That said, we do have welded wire for our NDs, and it's still holding up after 5 years. They rarely stand on the fence, though.

It worked for us for 6 months or so but the welds gave out where our doe liked to rub the fence.

I just researched that and decided to go with the woven. Too many complaints about the welds breaking...

Yeah save yourself the headache of having to re-fence way sooner than you want. Woven is well worth the extra investment.

I would also go with the woven to start out with if you can swing it price wise. The welded will last for awhile but you will eventually end up replacing it but hard to say how long it will last, depends on your goats. Most all goats like to rub so even if they don't stand on it most likely they will walk along side it & rub so it get's bowed out, etc.

I've used welded wire for goats and have REGRETTED IT BIG-TIME. It is best to use "woven" with fencing posts no farther apart than 8 ft....even better would be a nice strong 2x4 on top of the fencing with the top of the fencing wired to it, though that can get expensive if it is a very large area.

I have welded wire, mine is 47 inches high which keeps them from jumping it. But you have to pull it very tight, and make sure at the top and bottom you really wrap those fence clips on well. I pinched short side flat and the other side of the clip I wrapped it around a few times. I used my SUV, a wooden board and rope to pull it tight.

The pallet fence is cool, but I see mine either jumping it or eating it

If I had the money I would have all 7 acres fenced in with cattle panels. I like them the best. My bucks are in a cattle panel pen.

Goats have this lovely habit of walking down the fence line, leaning into it, to scratch themselves. It puts a real strain on the wire.
The one thing I can thing that would make welded wire stand the strain is to hot wire them off of it.
