Look what we did yesterday! :)

Spent the day building a nice big pen for Cabrito our Boer/Alpine meat goat daddy and his friend Steve the Nubian wether. They're both big goats but they look small in this new pen! The three Boer girls will join them in October and they'll all have plenty of room to cohabitate while Cabrito does his thing.

Your goats are beautiful. I love your pup too.
Do you think your guys will be able to squeeze through the gaps between logs?

Ours would squeeze between the logs. You would be surprized at the size our boar goats can go through. But it is a good looking pen. Maybe you can put wire around it to make sure.

Thanks everyone! Yeah, time will tell if they can squeeze out. I told my husband that goats are like rats and can squeeze through a hole the size of a quarter. What's even more likely is that the girls will come in to visit before we want them to....
We'll reinforce as necessary but are hoping Cabrito and Steve are just too fat to make it out of there.... Hee hee!

Did you split those logs, or are they leftover bits from a sawmill? What did you use to dig the post holes?

The boards are face cuts we got from a sawmill and we had a friend come dig the holes with the post hole digger on his tractor.

Great job. The corral looks like it belongs on the Ponderosa!

That looks great!

And a helpful solution for me too btw, at least for summer time.

Are you concerned that the goats might go over the fence? It looks like it should be tall enough tho!

It's 5 ft tall on the short stretches so I don't think they're going to get out over the top. The spacing between the boards averages about six inches so they'd have to reeeeaaaalllly try hard to squeeze through. My baby pygmies have no problem going in and out for visits and to help the boys eat their hay- which is SO MUCH BETTER than the hay and fresh browse they get to eat 24/7...
We just need to get a shelter in there for them. It sprinkled a little last night and poor Steve was wailing like he was going to melt...

Of course he's going to melt. If the rain had continued any longer, you would have found a puddle of goat out there instead of Steve. Any goat knows this.
