Our doeling is now 8 months old and we were wondering, how old does one breed a doe for her first kidding?

How is she weight wise? Full size goats they say 60 lbs - well my nubians are 60 lbs at 3 months old.
I have bred them at 8 months but this past year I waited. I really do not want more than 4 to kid at a time. So it depends on your plan.

In my opinion it is best to wait until the doe is about 90lbs, totally doable in 8 months with really good management.

Nigerian Dwarf Dairy doe. Small lol. I dont think our 6 year old weighs much more than 50-60 pounds so our 8 month old is smaller again.

80 pounds or MORE. I've never heard 60 pounds. 80 to 90 is more common, I think.
Again, assuming full size breeds.
She needs to be at least a year old.

Well, I can pick her up unaided so she cant weigh that much. I am strong though, so she may weigh as much as 75 but I wouldn't think so.
Is a year a bench mark? Or is it by weight only? Or size?
And with mini's, do I just recon on a third of the weight of a standard breed and go from there? I suppose I could try to lug the scales out to the field and pick her up and weigh us both. It might be worth a u-tube slot though
Can you tell we are new to goats? lol

NIgerians are typically bred to kid on their first birthday, so, as long as she is a healthy weight, say 75% of the older girls, and in good condition, I say go for it!

We only have the two girls, one 6 years old and one 8 months old. Beauty is just about three quarters the size of Little Girl so yeh, about 75%.

I could not find where I saw 60 lbs so I guess I remembered wrong. 90 lbs sounds much more reasonable.

I prefer them be 100lbs - 80lbs is a minimum

I wait till they are a year and a half old to breed them. I do not have a scale to weigh my Nigies. I would rather they grow well then stress them out giving birth too young or small, kidding out a large single and etc.
I can enough does that I can stagger breeding and not rush anyone to give birth too young.
I personally do not know of any breeder who has them kid as they turn a year old.

Nigerians - I won't breed before 40# and no earlier than 9 months old. I prefer to wait till they are a little older though.
Standard sizes - not till 80-90# the bigger the better (not fat just bigger)
Mini breeds - I have been told 60# on F1's but have only bred 1 mini so far that was old enough and had a buck for to breed.
