Triplets!!!

Triplets!!! - Goatshttp://Triplets!!! - GoatsTriplets!!! - GoatsTriplets!!! - Goats
I want to thank you all for everything I've learned! I don't speak up much, but I love to check in most days to see what's happening. My doe didn't show many signs of labor, but I know her and sensed it was time to sleep in the barn last night. Not much happening so I drifted off around 3AM. She softly bleated in my ear around 7AM and I got to watch the whole thing (and videoed of course) as she had them finally around 10. AWESOME experience! The first 2 were boys, and very strong ones too, right from the start! The 3rd was a runty doe (1.75 lbs - Nigerian Dwarf) who probably wouldn't have made it this far if it weren't for this forum and everything I've learned. I know we're not out of the woods yet but she's gaining ground! Her sack was very thick, had to cut it open, and sucked out her nostrils. Mama didn't want anything to do with her - she was VERY into her two boys, and she didn't want to suck and even after a couple hours she could barely stand. So in the meantime we used a hair dryer and squirted Vit.E into her mouth (tried Bo-Se SQ twice but I wasn't getting it in, and she's sooo tiny and I was sooo nervous). That got her sucker going and we helped her nurse. Now she's doing it herself and Mama is more attentive to her. She's much more energetic. Mama will get wormed later - letting them all sleep. I'm getting a nap myself. So, thank you, thank you and thanks again - and any further advice is welcomed! I hope the pics came up OK!

They are darling!

So, I was looking at you photobucket picture album and I see your skunk pictures. Being the incredibly nosey person that I am I am dying to know more about him/her. Can you tell us about it?

Well, the skunk was a rescue my husband brought home. Impulsive and a surprise to me. But he'd always wanted one and in the condition he was in, I knew we couldn't send him back. He was fed all the wrong things so he'd lost a lot of hair, and he smelled of pee. He was also scared to death of us. Not knowing anything about caring for a skunk (he was descented and neutered already, by the way!) , I joined a skunk forum and that helped like this one does! So today he is soft and furry again! For the summer he has an outdoor pen and loves it. (about 20'x15') He is still fearful, but I can pet him while he's eating. He's very docile - we pick him up and hold him and he's never threatened to bite. If you YouTube 'pet skunk' they are wonderful pets! They act like cats! I don't know if he'll ever get that friendly though. He had a rough start.

Congratulations on some beautiful triplets! It is an awesome experience watching the births & it sounds like it was a good thing you were there to help the little girl. Sounds like your doing a great job.

Oh how cool about the skunk. Would he be a candidate to be returned to the wild? Probably not. He is beautiful.
My Uncle caught a small baby skunk while driving to our house for a visit once. Needless to say he was more than a little bit drunk when he did it. That baby was very sweet and played like a kitten the whole time it was there. Mom made him take it with him when he left...lol. Apparently, it had time to rejuveninate it's stink supply because it sprayed while in his truck......dumb drunk. We laughed about that for years.

Too funny CJBegins!!!

Update on the runt - she's doing great! She's nursing great and starting to play, but still nothing like her brothers. They're brutes! We may call her 'Itty Bitty'.

Itty Bitty will grow and probably outgrow her name..lol. I have a runt I call Lil Bit and he might be small but he is mighty.
