I did it!

I made my own cajeta with my own goats milk!!
Had goats for 6 years & really never wanted to milk them, I thought just another job. Until a friend wanted some milk to make cheese.
Well I have a doe that has twins but they tend to favor 1 side & they are tiny, so 1 side gets bigger than the other so I been milking out the 1 side, sometimes both each morning or every other day depending on how her udder looks. I was getting so much milk I didn't know what to do.

I made the regular Cajeta but I added a little cinnamon. It's in my coffee now & dh said he's having some on ice cream tonight.
I think I'm hooked! Now I want to make chocolate cajeta & I really would like to make some soap, then maybe some mozzarella cheese. Oh My Gosh, and I never wanted to milk!

I am pretty excited if you can't tell. All because I milked & used some of my own milk.
I had milked one before but just a little while drying her up after weaning her kids but that was a few years ago. We did drink it & it was good but I just thought it'd be more work than fun.
This doe just stands there & eats alfaffa pellets, doesn't mind at all (on the milk stand of course, other wise she'd probably take off). Takes me 10 minutes.

It's an awesome feeling that never grows old. You discover that milking time turns out to be very relaxing too, at least for me it has. I can't drink cow's milk, so having goat milk is such a blessing. We've made mozzerella and cheddar cheese with ours, and have even made peach icecream with it. We haven't tried soap yet, but we have everything we need to make it, so I'm hoping I'll be able to soon.

I remember when I first started milking monkey and it took me half an hour to milk her. Then a month later we got Addie and it took me a half an hour to milk both and now 3 months into it I can do both in about 5 minutes depending on if something shinny catches my eye lol.

I remember when I started and it took forever thinking to myself what did I get myself into? Then tasting the milk I was like hmmm... its worth it, then cajeta and now I kick myself for waiting for so long to do it. I can not wait to start doing soap and cheese. That is my next step but I have to wait until the babies are weaned because I am not about to give up my share of milk lol.
