It's not goats but you folk understand...

I am very sad.

Bud D Dawg savaged and killed our house cat, Zonker.

It's not the first time Bud gave in to his prey drive. He almost killed Frankie the Hound Dog about a year or so ago. We rehomed Frankie, and didn't think it would happen again.

On Mother's Day, we came home to unbelievable gore.

We took care of the mess and laid Zonker's remains to rest.

We knew what had to be done, we didn't want to do it, but what would he kill next? A goat? A dog? A child?

So now, Bud D is also buried here on the farm.

I miss my dog so bad...

Oh, how heartbreaking. Absolutely no question that you did the right thing, but how heartbreaking. I'm so sorry you had to make that decision. Your dog is worth the grief you feel... he left well-loved...

I have big dogs and cats. Don't trust them an inch alone together. At night the dogs are in my room and the cat out, when I'm at work the dogs are in crates. The Great Dane could kill the cat just stepping on her with no malice...

My prior Great Dane and the cat were friends. I had a no pester the cat rule, but the cat would come prowl around, then they'd go off together to another room where I'd catch the Dane grooming the cat. When she grew out of the puppy energy phase I allowed it.

I love dogs, but I don't trust them.

Thanks so much for the supportive comments... It's been a rough week, and I was so busy that I did not even have time to deal with it until today, when it all just came down like a ton of ... well, bricks is the polite word.

I am trying not to cry all the time. A couple glasses of wine have helped with that... but oh, it hurts. It hurts that Bud killed Zonk, it hurts that we had to shoot Bud.... It hurts that someone felt the need to lecture that I should have known not to trust Bud (though I've never had a problem in all the years I've owned American Bulldogs right along side cats)....

I think I should just go to bed and sleep for a while. Maybe things won't be so bad in the morning...

Hugs and more hugs!

The morning sunrise is always better than yesterday's bad news.

I, too, am sorry for your double loss.

Sometimes folks don't know how to express sympathy. You just have to thump them on the head just hard enough to make them take a little nap.

Sweetly of course!

We love you

I'm so sorry Pony! I have had bulldogs and Altman's bulldogs for years and rarely have I had a problem. But when we did it was similar to what happened to your your Zonker. I know your pain all too well. My heart still hurts 10 years later. I know how raw it is right now. You did the right thing. If you need anything at all or someone to talk to I'm here. Hugs sister. I feel so bad for you.

I am so sorry for your loss Pony. I was just thinking of you the last few days & wondering how your doing, too bad it had to be such heartbreaking news. It was the right thing to do but it still doesn't make your heart feel right.
Hugs to you, have a 3rd glass of wine & try & get some rest.

I had to put a dog down for safety reasons once - being responsible just sucks sometimes, you did the right thing, but it still sucks.

I think that I will go and have a drink for you.

big hugs... we too had to put a much beloved dog down for everyone's safety (a ridgeback).. most times he was fine.. sometimes.. something would just snap... thankfully it was me that he attacked and not one of the kids..(I still have a bad scar from the edge of my mouth to my chin.. and one in the hand.. he went for my throat, but I got my right hand between his teeth and my throat).. I was his second unprovoked attack (I made excuses for him, the first time)... it was such a sad time in our lives. I can't believe someone would be so insensitive, as to lecture you ... We now share our home with an American bulldog (named Moon)... right now she is asleep on her pad, next to Simone (one of the house cats)... Moon is high prey drive...but it's not her I watch with the cats.. it's our old lady boxer!!! there is just a look she gets in her eye sometimes, that makes me nervous for the cats... again, so sorry.. the whole situation.. well it just sucks!!!

susie, mo ozarks
