Green Az Boogers

Thanks for any help I can get. I have a sweet milking Nubian doe. A few weeks ago I noticed small bumps on her neck. Crusty stuff over it. Called a friend that knows goats, no vet with goat knowledge here, she wasn't concerned. Then Nanny started having clumped poops, she has clean fresh water and lots off alfalfa hay and pellets and minerals and sweet feed when we milk her. My friend said to make sure she is drinking. She is and eating her alfalfa fine. But yesterday she had no milk, green boogers in her nose and would not eat her very yummy sweet feed. Today same thing. Went from 1 gallon of milk a day to almost nothing. Any suggestions?

Don't you hate that? ugh! The crusty bumps could either be a staph infection or fungal (rain rot). The clumpy poop sounds like an upset tummy so I would only give good grass hay until her poops are back to normal. The green boogers are a sign of infection. It's sounding like she may need anti-biotics. Did you take her temp?
I'm sure others will chime in here to help you out!

Stop the sweet feed and put it in the compost heap.

Take her temperature.

Take a pic of the crusty bumps and post here, please.

Please post a list of when she has been dewormed and with what and how much.

What kind of pellets and how much per day?

Does her milk have clumps in it? blood?

What Alice said, especially about the sweet feed. I used to feed it, too, but our goats are doing ever so much better without all that molasses and whatever else they put in there.

How is her breathing?

Good advice already given, I would follow Alice's lead. Agree with them on the sweet feed too, too much molasses just upsets their tummies. You'd be better off with a dairy ration & it's probably not any more than what your paying for sweet feed & maybe less.

SO I have more to the puzzle. We have another new momma goat that just had triplets 4 weeks ago. When I went out there Nanny had one of her babies nursing off of her. Maybe those babies are drinking all her milk. Plus we have been milking her 2 times a day so maybe she is just being milked too much (she miscarried a few months back so she doesn't have any kids right now) anyways.....I tried to get a picture of the spots but I couldn't get her to hold still so it would focus. I took her temp and it is 101.8. We wormed Nanny at the end of January when she lost her 3 fetuses with SafeGuard dewormer. Alfalfa pellets 1/2 #10 can twice a day with a flake of alfalfa hay. Her milk, what little we got, seems to be fine. Her breathing is fine as well. I hope I answered all the questions. Still new and learning. Only had goats for 1 year. Lots to learn. Thanks

SafeGuard is not usually effective against barberpole stomach worms. It works OK on tapeworms, but not the worms that cause adult goats problems.

Deworm with Cydectin as soon as possible.

Yes, the learning curve on goats is steep and painful!!
CaliannG and prairiedog like this.
