Question Bump on nose? What could this be?

When I was out taking care of everyone this morning, I noticed this little bump on our 2 week old saanen does nostril. Any ideas on what could it be? She was disbudded at our friends farm on Saturday, but wasn't with any other goats, etc. Is eating, playing, jumping around---acting normal. Thanks friends!

At 2 weeks old my only guess is maybe sore mouth but I thought that looked more scab like. Hoping someone else jumps in to help.

I'd keep an eye on it. Don't touch it with your bare hands in case it is Orf/Sore Mouth.

I am really curious (if it is in fact sore mouth) how she could've gotten it...everyone else is clean. Could she have picked it up while getting disbudded? Puzzled.

It's in the environment.

From the CDC:
Sore mouth is caused by a poxvirus (specifically orf virus) and is found all over the world. The scabs of infected animals contain virus, can fall off, remain in the environment and serve as a source of infection to susceptible animals. A flock can become infected through contaminated bedding, feed or trucks, or by direct contact with infected animals (e.g. replacements brought onto the operation or at shows).

So I think it may be sore mouth, when I closely checked her out I saw more bumps. If you look in the photo towards the edge of her lip, she has other little bumps. Darn it. No one else is showing signs of it. I read that it could be from deficiency, and I know their mama was definitely deficient in minerals. I am cleaning her with acv (wearing gloves) and keeping an eye on her. Now I need to keep an eye on her mama's udder too. Praying for a quick healing...

Does this mean I need to toss any milk from mama too (can I feed it to the pig)?

I always wash my hands & use purell between milking does--but now I am thinking I have to be extra vigilant not to cross contaminate.

And I'm sure you are putting her dam last in the milk line.

I did read that Mary and will now.

I usually milk her last anyway, but this morning I milked her first (go figure) into a seperate bucket and I clean everything in between does as well.

Also, do you think it's ok to drink her milk? Or even to give it to the pig? Can't wait to be through this challenge...

I'm sorry that I don't know enough about it to answer your question. Maybe someone else does.

I don't know a lot either but did some reading and since it is zoonotic and you have to wear gloves do not drink the milk. I would "think" pigs would be fine but I would do some more reading first. Can this baby become a bottle baby so she doesn't spread it to mom? Maybe milk mom and feed to her kid? If mom had it and not baby I would use heat treated milk or milk from another doe. You need to stop this virus befor it goes through your herd. If mom gats it all her future kids can end up with it.

I'm really sorry about this.
