lutalyse question
Because I have to go in for medical tests on wed. I am thinking about starting the 2 does that are due (over due). I need to be here and don't want to take a chance on missing.
What is the proper dosage and on average how long until delivery?
Thanks

2cc of Lute, and it can take up to 36 hours.
I've only induced 2 for a friend, and stayed at her house to kid them out for her..... Used lute & dex and labor started 7 hours later on one doe, labor started 20 hours later on the 2nd. We induced one on day 147, the other on day 152.
Be VERY certain of your breeding/due dates. If you are not 100% positive on what her due date is, I wouldn't induce........ If you are not 100% certain you can be there until they kid, however long that takes, I would not induce... Also, I was warned that there can be a higher chance of tangled/kids in improper position with inducing than with natural labor...... Not sure if that if true or not. One I induced had tangled up, breach twins, the other doe had a text book, easy kidding.

I am 100% certain of due dates...One is on 148, the other is on 145. So I am not worried about that. With all the multiples we have had so far this year, tangled kids is normal for us.
One is a ff that I need to be here for, I think it will be my last chance to make friends with her. and the other is a girl that had quints last year and is huge, so I am thinking there is a few in her this time too.

I thought it was 150 days, which wouldn't make them overdue yet? And I thought they could take up to 5 days to settle which is why you gave 5 days after that before they were considered past... Is there no one near who could watch them? Is it something that would keep you disabled for long?
I can understand wanting to be there, and it's your choice, it just sounds like technically you could have a possibility of 7 to 10 more days before they are overdue? Also, did you account for it being leap year? They might be one day further...

My girls are Nigerian Dwarf and always kid on 145 or 146...Technically yes they are not overdue. Since I don't know how long I will be away, it will be easier to have them kid before hand...although I am not positive I will do it, I am just looking at options.
Thanks for all the help.

I used the Dexamethazone and Lute and both does kidded out 24 later to a T. Both had super easy text book deliveries. On our doe Popcorn we were outside eating lunch and she was standing there eating her hay. She turned around to look at something and there were two hooves sticking out. She never even showed any signs of being in labor or getting close, no goo no nothing. I used 3 cc's dex and 2 cc's Lute. To me inducing is better then loosing kids and/or the doe.

I induced EVERY doe this year... gave induction drugs (5cc Dex & 2cc Lute IM) on day 149. I did each doe at 11 am..labor began on ALL the next afternoon.. MOST kids were born between 3pm & 7pm.. 6pm (right after evening chores, so they didn't miss a meal LOL.. was VERY popular)... not a single breech kid out of 15 does...super easy labors & deliveries.. Carla's boys tried to come out together and needed some detangling, but that was pretty much the only real issue we had.. all kids were born healthy & alert.. not only did we miss not a single kidding.. we hardly missed any sleep... almost all the does had kidded, been milked.. babies bottled.. all before bedtime...

the dex helps mature kid lungs (and I believe it also softens ligaments)... I'm pretty sure the dex dose for ND is 2cc's.. (I use 5cc's on big nubian does).. the main thing with both the LUTE & DEX.. make sure and get it into a muscle..

Yes, not knowing how long you'll be gone makes a huge difference. And I can understand weighing options Were I in your shoes, I'd be doing it, too, especially since they are hitting late for them. Never had NDs, and didn't remember you did.
All good luck to you and your girls. Maybe they'll even get busy and take care of it for you

My vet said the dose for Dex is 5cc, IM, regardless of goat size/breed. One of the does I induced was a boer, the other, a mini Alpine & I used the same dose on both. 5cc Dexamethazone, 2cc Lute, both given IM, not SubQ.
As long as you're certain of due dates, and can be there to attend the birth, I'd induce
