opinion on doe

went to see a saanen doe yesterday and i wanted to ask everyones opinions. She is a first freshener, yearling. nice personality, registered, saw her paperwork and she has some nice high production herd names in there. her udder is far from perfect though. i milked her out and she has about 2x the amount of milk in the 1 side then the other and a large packet. she also does not have a tatoo in her ear, even thought i was told that was her paper work'. they said they are cae/ cl free. the price is really good. what do you think? i'm not sure...

Keep looking. Being lopsided to me would be a concern.

I don't know much yet about registrations, but I would question the no tattoo also.

A large packet? What is that?

No ear tattoo to match the papers is a red flag if you are looking (and paying) for registered stock.

Lopsided udder could mean she had one kid and they didn't know to keep her even.

Ask to see the CAE test results. Word of mouth doesn't mean squat.

sorry, I meant pocket, not packet, and i know they had a single buckling on her, that's partly what i was thinking was part of it, but that tatoo is bothering me... think there are too many wierd things around here. maybe i'll just wait.

My doe doesn't have a tattoo either and she is registered. I got her at 3 days old and with 30+ kids on the ground they just didn't get around to it. Ask if they can have her tattooed before you take her. Lopsided means nothing, Butter is nursing two kids that both drink from the same side so by the the time I get home from work one side is empty and one side is HUGE. I get 2 QTs out of the full side twice a day.

Definitely ask to SEE the CAE paperwork.

depending on the price and what you want from the doe it might or might not be a good deal.
loop sided does not mean she could be even next year. tattoo can be applied any time.
the only concern is cae status. get the test before you buy her.
