A story in pictures...our milk/kidding barn

About a year ago, it began like this...
A story in pictures...our milk/kidding barn - Goats

Then, I bred some does to kid in November and started explaining to Jerry, my husband, that I needed the new barn finished.

So, in true "guy" fashion...he called my brother...

Next thing I know, my brother shows up with a couple guys...and in two days...it looks like this....

Okay, I was starting to think, "This might actually happen..."

Then, it looked like this...
A story in pictures...our milk/kidding barn - Goats

With a door, and an awning to block the sun from coming in the window on the west.

After a few more days, the milking room looked like this...

On the other side of the window is a room so that I can watch my children, and they can watch me. It's also got a couch, TV, working toilet and shower.

And there's a sink in the milking room...Hey, how did that get in there?

Then we moved the folding milkstand over from the old milk room. And there's Cream! She's MY favorite...

Look, we have milkers-in-training...

Do you need feed?
A story in pictures...our milk/kidding barn - Goats

Here's the hay feeder they built to feed the does in the kidding part of the barn. My brother welded angle iron around those 4x4 panels, so now they are nice and sturdy!

And then came the cameras...so now I sit in the house...300 ft. away and watch the does. Goat TV is the greatest!

It didn't happen overnight...but I am glad it came to be.

That is really nice! I wish I had a handy crew like you do. I'm wanting a nice big new lean too built with windows, etc. but I'm calling a friend for an estimate. Too bad your guys are so far away.

I have been adding a few feminine touches to the milk room. The curtain under the counter is a twin bed sheet I split in two and used one half here and split the other half again and made cutains for the window between the rooms.

Here is a pic of the hoop house we made for the yearlings...

We are putting the tarp on the second one today that is in the buck pen. I changed it a bit for durabilty. I'll post pics later.
