Putting kids and does together 1st time

Not wanting to hijack vpierce's thread here.

This Saturday I will be bringing home my first American Saanen! Woo hoo!

I think it will be the best time to introduce my two month old Boer doeling along with the new Saanen, to my two does (a Toggenburg and an Alpine/Nubian). I know the new saanen is an easy going non aggressive yearling girl. My does are two year olds and have been with the doeling a few times.

I found that two is company and three is definately a crowd! When the doeling is turned out with just the Togg doe they are good together. Sure baby needs to learn to mind her own business, stay out'a the way. But still good. The two does are much more pushy with the little one if all three are together. Go figure. So I think if I introduce the new yearling and the doeling to the big girls on Saturday AM I can watch them all day, sleep in the barn if I have to, watch them Sunday. If all goes well we'll be set by Monday AM. I am pretty sure no one will allow the doeling to nurse (she still gets bottles AM and PM), she'll probably find that out the hard way. But will have to be told only once. At least that's how it has worked out before here.

I'd be happy for any advice on introductions? This will be in a smallish paddock about 75 x 75.

if the baby is used to bottles, she might not try to nurse at all anyhow. I would be a bit concerned putting a new goat in to the pen, are you sure she has no icks? if possible, i'd put her in a pen nearby, or even right next to the regualr pen and let them get aquainted that way. a day or so with this set up then put her in. they figure out their situations pretty fast.

The bigger the space you can give them to get aquainted in the better. That way the underdog can get away if she needs to.

Good advice. Yes, the new girl is coming from a place I know and trust completely. I have left my girls with them before for a week at a time for breeding babysitting etc.
