Banding?

What age do you band bucklings? I searched, but I couldn't find anything about it on here.

And just a general update on the happy goat family... Thomas Hunter is getting much bigger, he isn't the friendlist little thing, though. His mama, Andy is doing great! Isn't it fairly normal for a first freshener's udders to get bigger slowly, with just enough to feed him? Thomas Hunter's marking are changing, too! At first he had black markings on his face, now it is fading and they are more of a soft brown,He is still a very handsome little boy, though.

Sounds like your liking the new little goat family. Spend as much time as you can with them & Thomas Hunter should come around.
Mine love to be brushed & animal crackers are one of their favorite treats. Try just setting in the barn or pasture with them, take a chair & book & relax & I bet he'll come around.

I band my bucklings between 5 & 8 weeks, depending on their size. I like the testicles to be decent size but not too big that the banding will cause more pain. They usually within an hour sometimes more don't even act like anything is wrong.
Last year I had 1 little guy that seemed a little uncomfortable until the next day which was unusual but he was pretty big at 6 weeks already.

Thanks for the advice! You're right, I am enjoying my little goatie family! Thomas Hunter doesn't really like to be caught but once he is, he turns into a little love bug, giving kisses, napping on your shoulder, enjoying the view of the rest of the yard, and just being a little love bug! (And no, I'm not addicted in the slightest!)

(He's not spoiled, either!)

I like to band earlier than some. The smaller the testicles, the less discomfort there is for the buckling. I have banded as early as 5 days when giving away a buck companion. Usually though I wait for a few days after disbudding. So around 10-14 days.

If I was having them banded, the vet would do it at the same time he disbudded, so 7-10 days here.
