Take a whole basil plant and crush it, then soak it in hot (but not boiling) water for 2 hours. Then strain it, and put the water in a spray bottle. Spray this on anything you don't want ticks jumping on, your socks and pant legs, the front steps, goats, dogs, whatever. It deters ticks from wanting to get hop on.

If you find a tick on them, rub veggie or mineral oil on it. This cuts off their air circulation and causes them to let go on their own (thus NOT injecting poisons or leaving parts of themselves in the wound to fester). Once they do so, destroy them without mercy.

Ticks, like fleas, are evil.

Most flea sprays will kill ticks too

We're using Adams Flea Off Mist. Safe enough for puppy dogs, doesn't seem to bother the goats.

We also do the manual tick removal thing. Ugh. Nasty but effective, and I must confess that there is something very gratifying about smashing those little bloodsuckers.
