Tell me again that it is difficult to OD On copper boluses..

We gave the girls copper at milking time. I let dd13 prepare the syringes. When we started, we had just enough for all the girls. Dd13 didn't remember to prepare the syringe for OBF Almond Joy, since Joyous is not milking. When I prepared it, there really wasn't any copper for Joyous. I will order more and give Joy her dose as soon as we get it, my worry is the inconsistency on all the other doses. I showed dd how to prepare everything, but she is my impulsive girl, so I imagine that some of the goats got too much tonight and others got less than their share.... I can watch for the "less than their share" ... I just need to hear that "more than their share" will probably not kill my sweet girls overnight.... Can you say "Helicopter Goat Mom"?

It really wasn't anything too exciting - just OCD Mom trying to let go of some control of the goats.

ETA: although the evil iPad Spell check has me FIXED every time....

They will be fine.

I have intentionally given a dose & a half to a goat I couldn't get over showing signs of deficentcy, then repeated it a month later. Fixed him right up, no ill effects. My mom jokes that me "going crazy" on,his copper made him a girl producer! Bred to 6 does this year (his 1st breeding season), 9 kids total & 8 of them does

Anywho, don't freak out over it. If it was copper sulfate, yea, I'd worry, but the copper oxide rods give you room for error without them killing over

I understand totally about being a helicopter mom. I have a baby monitor by my bed so i can check on the girls. I think after reading this I just might dose my addie girl again. She spit half of hers all of me.

I have given a goat a WHOLE bolus with no effect.

Take a deep breath. Is it too early for a glass of wine?

Truth to what? The doe producer comment? If thats what you're referring to, then no, I don't think me hitting Houston with 1 1/2 doses, twice, really had anything to do with producing more does, it just got his copper levels where they needed to be.... The doe streak mom had was just to balance out the buck streak I got this year (no doe kids born at my house )

But I personally believe that when they show deficentcy symptoms (especially as bad as mom's buck did), that it's not going to correct with just a twice yearly bolusing. So I'm pretty aggressive with the dosing to get them over the hump, levels up to normal, then I maintain that on the proper dose listed by Joyce Lazzaro's study. But that's just what works for me.

Well, shoot! I was really hoping that was the cause. Wouldn't that be nice?
