help, hard udder, blood tinged milk

Wilma kidded last Sunday night. Her kid eats only from one side.

Monday I noticed the nipple on one side of her udder was red and tight. The udder above was hard.

Advise from friends has me rubbing her udder and stripping her out.

This morning (Saturday) I milked her one side out and got blood tinged milk at the end of the milking. He udder is still hard in places.

I have been giving her calcium, magnesium, potasium supplements in corn syrup.

She is eating her grain and is still eating hay and from the pasture.

Help. This is getting frustrating. I'm not sure I even want the other goat to kid.

Keep up with massage and milking out. Very likely it's just edema (swelling) from her milk coming in. I'd massage and milk out AT LEAST four times a day, every couple of hours if you can manage it. Little blood vessels pop in a newly filled udder, so unless you are getting weird chunks of white/yellowish solidified milk, it may not be as bad as you fear.

Thank you.

No chunks. Just nice smooth creamy milk with pink.

I got 3 times as much milk this morning than last evening.

maybe milk coming in?
