Winnie & Her Nest (looks like today) - Pics
When we woke up this morning our doe Winnie had made herself a giant big bird nest. This is our only doe that makes a literal nest when she is ready. It's 3pm now and I'm hoping to have kids on the ground before 8pm. She's doing great, hope she doesn't make us wait all night! It's day 147 but we are really thinking quads or at the very least triplets.
In the first picture you can really see her "nest". Overnight she took all the loose hay and shavings and brought them into the corner for herself and then laid in the center and burrowed in. We moved her on Sunday and left everything alone until last night. She made the nest in the warmest corner and by the heat lamp (thank you Winnie), of course it is also by her food, which she doesn't like to ever by far from. I love this goat!

I don't know if anybody else's doe's make actual nests? This is the only one that we've ever had do it. Last time she kidded she went a week early, we came out in the morning and every goat was standing outside the barn, staring inside. We thought that was strange and when we got inside she had made a giant Winnie Nest in the corner and wouldn't let anyone in. She's a funny goat! At least she signals when she is close.

Morningstar I found a picture of Winnie as a yearling!
I can't believe how much she has grown and matured.

We love her Justine! Savannah is doing great too by the way, her new family just called us this week. She got in with a Boer on accident last fall but they are bringing her and her 3 triplet yearling girls to us this fall for breeding. You have no idea how much that Grandmother loves Savannah, they use to have a commercial cattle dairy (they have a beef herd now I think) and Savannah is their house milk. Grandma spends hours with the goats everyday.
Winnie is bred to a colorful brown buck with waddles. I'm sure there is some technical name for his color but I never know, he looks brown to me. He's kind of a small LaMancha which is why we got him, he's an Udder buck. I'm keeping any doe's Winnie has this year. I've been over taken by show goats! Need to get some easy keepers/easy milkers back in the herd

My goodness Justine! Look how thin she was !!! Thank you so much for finding that pic!
We were just talking last night how old she was and we got out her papers. I think we got her from you as a milking yearling and she's 6 this year. She has a place with us until her natural death, not sure how many more time we'll breed her, she is way more pet then livestock and I don't want to risk her health. I just hope she gives me a few daughters today!!!

This is another pic of Winnie (that is gunk on the window by the way). Winnie is Sierra's goat, my 15 year old, she has spent the last two days sitting with her, that's her in the background yesterday.

Here is another picture of her at a couple of months with her older half sister Willow and their momma.
I am so happy Savannah is doing well also . She was a special girl, I am hoping to get a doeling FINALLY off her mom this year. I finally retired Brandy last year which she is NOT happy about but she is 10yrs old now and a pet so I like you don't want to risk her health. Did you see the picture of Mia's little doeling? (Winnie's full blood little sister). She had a Brandy doeling LOL!
What is funny is that Mia is my mom's favorite doe in the herd as well. She too is an easy keeper and is a dream to milk. I hope Winnie gives you a pretty doeling or two to keep back. I know I have a lot of Brandy daughters/granddaughters in my herd. I can't help it, I love their rock steady temperament and easy keeping.
Justine
PS: I just found some of Winnie when she was just born! Oh my goodness I forgot how small she was compared to her 2 brothers.

It is a great line Justine! She is the perfect home milk goat as far as I'm concerned (and we've had/seen a lot of milk goats).
Did we tell you Savannah had quads last year? 3 doelings and 1 buck. Those are the 3 they are bringing to us this fall, they are keeping every one, they too love them.
Thank you SO much for finding those pics! The girls are going to love seeing baby Winnie pics! I will go back and look for Mia's pic. I am going to save these two to my computer.

Yeah it is a great line, plus the kids I have been getting are looking very nice . I have some more Winnie kid pics I will send to you via PM. I have some of her brothers also before we sold them. Crazy to think she is 6yrs old now. I remember when she was born! I don't know if I ever told you how she was born, it is a really funny story.
I knew Brandy was getting ready to deliver, I was home alone and was heading out to do midday chores. When I got to the barn she was just starting to push the first out, so I delivered the first big buckling and pretty soon she started pushing the second large buckling out. I figured with those two 9lb boys there was NO way she had another in her. I brought the boys in the house and went back out to clean up. While I was cleaning up Brandy was up and about doing her thing, I was standing a bit behind her when she let out a big cough and then a fart and out flew Winnie . I mean she literally flew a foot or two out of her momma....funniest thing I have ever seen in my life. She was a small kid, only 5lbs or so hence why I think she came out so fast. But to this day I chuckle thinking of how Winnie entered this world.
Justine
PS: When Savannah and her daughters come out do you think you could snap a picture? I would love to see how she has grown.

I didn't know that Justine about Winnie's birth, how silly! She's never had a birth like that I will certainly take a picture and PM you a picture of Savannah and her girls when they come.
Well, Winnie is just chewing cud, 8pm is fast approaching, so I'm thinking I was off on that one! I hope she doesn't keep me up too late! I got an ounze of calcium in her in case she has quads, not that she is off feed at all!

Well, of course, no babies! We are going to take shifts tonight, 12, 3 and 6 to check on her. She is going to hold onto them one more day I guess
