Dang! :(

My other Boer doe gave birth sometime last night but the baby was dead when I got out there this morning. I checked her last night and she didn't look anywhere near going into labor. It snowed heavy sometime after midnight and the baby was lying covered in the snow. Mama goat hadn't cleaned it at all and it looks like it never moved. It was a big baby and this was the first birth for this doe. I'm kicking myself and wondering if it would've survived if I'd been there to help.... I should've known with the bad weather forecast, that she would give birth. Sigh...

Thanks.... I know I'm just one of many that's having a bad goat year.
Lost the five to the dog attack, miscarriage by the injured pygmy doe, Boer buckling that never thrived and lived only two weeks, and now this full term loss. I'm really hoping (needing) things to go smoothly with my two pygmy girls that are due to deliver in a few weeks. All this sadness really takes it out of you... Sorry for moping and complaining, but I know you guys all understand.

Really sorry Steph. I don't think I've ever read so many problems with kidding, premature kidding, doe and kid deaths as I have this year on this board. It is a worry. I will turn Jake in with the girls this week and I have to tell ya, I'm more than a little concerned.

I'm so sorry Steph for the loss. I'll keep my fingers crossed that your 2 pygmies girls deliver healthy, bouncy babies. Sometimes I think they wait for us to leave the barn before they kid, especially since I tend to drive them crazy checking them all the time when they start getting close.
This is the part of owning livestock that really sucks!
