Getting ready for my dairy goats

As we finish getting ready to begin our dairy goat experience, I have tried to find a list of things I should have on hand before the goats arrive. I realize I'll need housing, fencing, and food. What other things should I have in a "goat kit"? Are there certain meds that should be on hand? My husband drives by a TSC every weekday so non-emergency things could be picked up. Thanks for your help.

Are you getting kids or adults? Are they from a tested herd? A few things I keep in my goat medical kit are: wormer, bio mycin, probios paste, rolled cotton and vet wrap, b complex, a stethoscope. Those are my basics I have lots more in there too. Goats never get sick when you have time to go to TSC, they get injured and sick late Saturday night or on a holiday so you need to be somewhat prepared for the unexpected.

If you are new to goats and milking..I would make sure I had a spray or solution for treating the teats after milking them..to discourage bad germs from getting in the teat. Does that make sense..not nearly enough coffee yet..lol.

Cleanliness is everything when it comes to milking..of course..that's just my take..lol.

Congrats..and I hope you enjoy those new girls when they come!

if you don't have a stand, you'll want one before you get them home....assuming they've been trained to use a milk stand.

Found that out the hard way
