The kids are all 2-3 weeks old in these pics. I'm pleased with this year's kids -- out of six kids, we got five doelings. These are Nigerians -- unregistered, and since I like them a little bigger than the breed standard, I'm not worried about the lack of registration status.
Princess Buttercup is my eldest doe (pushing ten years old) and she had one very large stillborn kid, dead before birth, plus Lady. Given Buttercup's age and and the number of kids she's had in her life -- well over twenty -- I'm not surprised she lost one.
Xena is Buttercup's daughter, and had triplets but we lost one that wasn't right from birth. I
love Xena -- she's nicely put together, has nice long legs to make milking easy, and has a really nice disposition. This is her second batch of kids.
Fancy is Buttercup's great-granddaughter. I did not plan on breeding her ever -- she's a bottle baby with a hilarious sense of humor and an outsized personality, but she had a rough start on life and is tiny. I meant to keep her as a pet.
My buck went through the fence, however, and she had
triplets just past her first birthday. (Oops.) She's an awesome mother and I'm really impressed with the kids. She's also got a nice udder and is making enough milk for a small cow -- and she's just (barely) a yearling!
More photos here.
Anyway -- here's some photos of the kids. :-)
Runt -- Fancy's first doeling (she was 1 lb 15 ounces at birth, and is about 3 pounds in this photo).
Flashy -- Fancy's second doeling
Romeo -- Fancy's buckling
Stripe and Spot -- Xena's kids
Lady -- Buttercup's kid.
