Weird excretion of some sort

I came home from work today, and fed Troubles' kids. I haven't been having to feed Storm, as he keeps full off the teat. He's been having yellow diarrhea, but has only had mama's milk so far, no cow milk, no additives, no solids (that I know of).

Tonight, after feeding the three that would take bottles, I turned to look at Storm, and noted an odd exudite on the ground (I wish I knew where Pony put the batteries for the camera, because wouldn't it figure the dang thing goes dead just when you need it)... it looked for all the world like someone had the world's largest 'loogie' and hocked it right there on the straw. White and clear, sorta slimy/stringy... almost exactly like a big ol' phlegm globber.

I have no idea a) who left it there, and b) from which end it came, but there were no weird noises that would have indicated one of them vomiting so I'm presuming it came from the hind end. I'm also implicating Storm (at this point) because he was the only one in that particular area of the shed, and he's got that weird diarrhea.

I wiped off his bum tonight, and gave him 3ccs Pepto at Pony's suggestion. I don't know if he could have an intestinal bug already, but if he continues, I'll have to look up the Valbazen dosage for an 8# kid.

As soon as I locate some fresh batteries, I'll snap a pic of it- I nabbed the straw clump it was on before someone could step in it- and post it up. In the meantime, has anyone ever come across such a thing?

Nick

I would not worm him at that age. The pepto will help, if it doesn't give him another dose tomorrow. Probiotic is not going to do much for him at this point since his rumen is not yet funtioning but it cannot hurt. Kids get runny poop at times, it may be nothing, just keep an eye on it.

You can take a picture with your cell if you cannot find the camera batteries. I also take it that you have never been sneezed on by a goat. I have multiple times and a few in the face so it may be goat snot

No wormers on babies so young.

Pony made the same suggestion of Pepto, so I dosed him 3ccs per feeding for a couple days, and it seemed to clear up. Still don't know what that 'stuff' was, and by the time she got home with the batteries for the camera, one of the dogs had knocked the wad of hay down in the dirt and batted it around a bit so... use your imaginations.

Oh, well- all's well that ends well, and all four are doing fine for now!
