We worm our baby goats at about 7 days old and sometimes before that. It all depends on where you are keeping them. If they are with mom it's 3 or 4 days if they are bottle feed it might be the 7 days. It also matters when they go outside and have access to hay... bedding and such. As a kid nibbles along the ground and is tasting things it increases the likelihood of ingesting worms. we use SafeGard paste and give them just one click.

We don't have much of a worm problem on our property so we wait and do fecals. BUT they get coccidia prevention on a schedule. We tried the Molly's Herbal and not only was it IMPOSSIBLE to get the kids to take that stuff but we didn't see any increase in growth over non-treated kids. Not sure if this is because we didn't have a population that year or what. We switched to Dimethox and it's just so much easier to get them to take it that we are sticking with that.

For coccidiosis prevention, you start at 3 weeks of age. We do it by weight and heck if I can find the resource online that says how much! Someone else can probably fill you in with that as I don't have my goat notes at work!

Our babies will be a week old Saturday. Hard to believe it already. Already got a offer for our buckling so told them have to wait til weaned no sells right now. On the price of buckling we told them 50bucks is that good price as the little buckling will be sold as a buck. Oh Oh forgot to say our babies are damed raised.

Will check back later as tree fell on fence from storm last-night so got to get it fixed before anything gets in. Not sure if wind done it or lighting, a woman's job is never done.

Worm loads can vary greatly depending on whether you are in a wet or dry climate. Goats in Virginia, which tends to be wet and more humid will have to be treated very differently from goats in Texas or the Southwest which is experiencing drought conditions.
Worm loads will also vary depending on what type of browse your goats are on. If you make your goats into grazers where they are eating right along the ground or if they remain browsers where they are eating the top 6 inches will result if differing worm/parasite potentials. It is very important to raise your goats in your climate and not relying totally on advice from folks in other parts of the country.

Raising goats is like selling real estate it's " location... location... location!"

I start cocci prevention at 3 weeks, do for 5 days then again at 3 week intervals for 5 days each time. I don't worm my baby goats with anything else until the 9 week cocci prevention. Then I worm them with Safeguard & also Cydectin.
