Unhappy Lost one of our best girls last night

We have a dairy girl that kidded about 3 weeks ago. When she kidded she was acting "off" and we hit her with a broad range and then she acted fine and has acted fine ever since, but this morning when we went out she was outside the fence dead. She looks like she bloated, but not sure. Sigh. They have just been on free choice hay and a little bit of grain in the morning and alfalfa pellets. This is the first adult goat we've lost. Sad day all the way around.

Looks like it may have been a grain over dose. My oldest daughter said she got out yesterday and the door to the barn was open and she got into the feed. Don't know how much, but we keep all the animals feed in there. She put her up, but then went on to do what she was going to and never told me about it. Sigh.

The good thing is, she had a doeling that will become her replacement. Still hate losing any though.

So sorry to hear that. These things just happen as a part of life...... Was it Dee or Jewel?

I still have Jewel's daughter and she just kidded.

so sorry. Please let your daughter know that it's not her fault. I lived for years thinking something was my fault and only as a parent myself found out that it was just something that happens.
hugs to everyone

So very sorry.

It's always best to have two things between the animals and the feed. I've been meaning to make a little gate out of cattle panel to put in the barn door frame as a second line of defense. I need to do that.

Thank you everyone. I was really down about it all day yesterday, but I'm better today. We finally got her orphaned buckling to take a bottle last night. Miracle considering he was a month old and had been on her all this time.

Tana, No, it was neither Dee nor Jewel. This was a LaMancha/Oberhasli cross doe I had from Burr Oak. We have her twin sister also.
