Update on Baby Girl

She is doing so much better, not sure if the vitamin E did it or if the diarrhea just ran its course but it is over at last . The down side is we have discovered that she is completely blind in one eye and doesn't seem to see very well in the other one but does have a slight blink reflex. We are going to keep her as a pet so it doesn't matter to us, we had a blind horse that got along just fine so we are hoping for the best with her. Has anyone else had a blind goat? When she goes to the vet for her check up I am going to see if he will "fix" her, sure don't want her to have any kids especially if she is completely blind. Thanks everyone for your help with her!

No, Doc just said she was completely blind in one eye and wasn't sure how much vision she had in the other one but he didn't think there was much vision but she probably saw some motions or light. He laughed when I asked him about spaying her, said he had done lots of wethers but no does but he would be glad to take care of her for us.

CC, I have a blind doe who does just fine. As a matter of fact she's the herd Queen. She lost her sight as a result of an infection when she was just a baby, so she has no idea that she is different.

Really REALLY stupid thought...but isn't blindness a side effect of one of the major players, polio I think? Would some Thiamine be of use or worth a try?

I'm so glad she's doing better. The diarrhea most likely just ran it's course. The vit. E is to help with muscle tone & the wobbliness when newborn.

I do think Beccachow is right though & polio causes blindness. We need Alice to find the link for us, I'll look for it but not sure I have it.

I think I found the link I was thinking of CC. Maybe just read it about Listerios & Polio & talk to the vet about Thiamine & if it may help your little gal. I think it needs to be done soon though & maybe this is temporary blindness because of the Polio.
