Lump inside Bag

My 2 year old Nanny Salsa just gave birth two her first kid a week ago. We noticed that her right udder was looking a bit swollen and red. It was not warm to the touch and does not seem to hurt her. When I had her on the milk stand I noticed that there are 3 lumps of different sizes inside her bag close to the udder. They do not seem to hurt her and I massaged them as I was milking. They seemed to loosen up and started getting smaller though she still has them. Does anyone know what they may be?

It just may be her mammary tissues are swelling with the milking process. Sometimes you will also get a blood tinge in the milk fro blood vessels popping from the growing glands and milk ducts. Keep an eye on it and the quality of the milk.

Need some clarification due to terms confusion.

A goat has one udder with two halves.

Each half has one teat.

Are the lumps in the teat or in the udder?

Is the half of the udder with the lumps hot?

Some goats get lumps of milk producing tissue at the base of the teat where it joins the udder. Sometimes these produce a small amount of milk that leaks to the outside, hence the name weeping teats.

A lump in the body of the udder itself is not a good thing.

Rosie had a congested udder before I got her and now has scar tissue in there. I use hot compresses, massage (and that goat _likes_ a HARD massage! Hurts my hands how hard she wants me to squeeze) and lots and lots of Vitamin C. Test her for mastitis and if that's negative, try the above... Except maybe she won't want the HARD massage LOL

Its in the udder not the teat and on the right half of theudder. There is no redness or swelling just 3 little lumps. She only has the one doeling so we milk her out morning and evening on the rightside. Will try the vitamin .

Be sure you strip out the first few streams into a cup or filter so you can examine the milk to make sure there are no clumps, lumps, or blood in the milk that might indicate mastitis.

I do a strip cup and all looks normal. I'm milking her out because another mama is giving us issues. But that is a totally different thing and we know why. Thank you for the suggestions and help.

It could be subclinical mastitis - you won't always have redness, fever, heat or milk signs. . .
