craigslist idiots

I had inquired about a horse trailer right after the ad was put up. The soonest they could have me out was going to be this afternoon... (I was the first one to call) ... so, I just get a call from them to tell me that they sold the trailer last night.... :grum ble:

I really do not like most people!
It's not my fault though, life taught that to me.

At least they did call you to let you know.

The Craigslist rule to live by is the first person to show up with cash gets the deal. NO ONE shows up MUCH OF THE TIME, regardless of how many times they say they want the deal and they will be there at XX time.

Don't expect someone to hold it for you based on a phone call.

It was a blessing they called you back to say it sold.

I've learned not to drive too far also, unless I'm up for a Sunday road trip and picnic, the CL ad being a side venture. Too often we've driven WAY out to the middle of no where to find that the item was in much worse shape than the seller was declaring.

Overall, we've done pretty well with CL though. Sorry you lost dibs on the trailer. Be at peace in knowing that the case may be that it had issues the seller was not disclosing and therefore sold it at the very first opportunity so as to unload it on to an unsuspecting buyer. A nicer one will come along. Just wait!

But Alice the soonest they said they could have mpete out was this afternoon. So either someone offered them more money or they are just jerks.

I called a guy once about some pullets he had for sale, I told him yes I did want to buy them and he told me to call him the next morning, I did and he told me " Sorry I sold them last night" I had called him that darn day so why did he do that?? He never said, " Hey can you come out today/tonight he just said to call him in the morning.
Some people are just annoying.

I called a lady one time about a dresser. She called me back at 10p.m. on a Saturday. I told her I would come by in the morning and pick it up as soon as earliy as she wanted. She text me at 2:30 a.m. and said it was sold.

Sometimes, people use the excuse "it sold or "it's no longer available" to really say they changed their mind and decided not to sell.

"If you didn't get it, then it wasn't meant for you." That's what I was told growing up when I would go with friends to the livestock auctions.

Maybe that is when it was most convenient for them, but it's possible the trailer was sitting out with a "For Sale" sign and someone happened to catch them at home.

I've had LOTS of people come look at sheep, and tell me they wanted a particular one, and when they would be back to pick it up, and then never show again.

All my sales now go to the person in front of me with CASH in their hand

That's good! I've inquired about two different does on CL that did not respond back at all. I figured if God wanted me to have them, somebody would have called me back! It turned out we didn't have the cash flow we were expecting this month, so we would have been short in other areas if I had bought one of these does. So as usual God knew what was best for me.

Someone might have coughed up more money when he played the "someone else is looking at it" game.

I cannot stand when people do that kind of thing. If you don't have your word, you don't have squat. I had a guy do that to me and he got a um....stern talking to. Hacked me off royally. If you say you are coming, I am setting the time. The time that I set is what is convenient for me and if you aren't there, I will move on, and quickly.

The CLer should not have made an appt if he was going to entertain other offers before yours. We have listed all kinds of things on CL and the first caller gets it, if that caller shows up. I go right down the line if we have a no-show. I don't bump any who have an appt. Of course, this is just the way I prefer to sell things.

Yea I bet someone simply stopped by and bought it. What's he going to do, tell them no some dude from craigslist is coming tomorrow to see it and send them on down the road? He doesn't know you and may never hear from you again. Stinks but the other guy was in front of him with cash, if that were the case.

I understand the 'sellers' position: but if I was the first one to call, and made the appointment to fit 'their' first position, then at least they should've told the people that bought it that "I have an appointment tomorrow. If they don't buy it, then I will give you a call" ..... honor. I guess some people just don't go by that (of course, as it was stated, it IS CRAIGSLIST)

I probably would have done that personally, I just don't know that most people would think you actually "had" to.

A very similar thing happened to us recently. We needed a new (used) car and found one in CL that sounded just right. DH called about the car on a Friday afternoon. The seller said that he could not show the car that evening, and that if we wanted to see it on Saturday, it would have to be before 10am. So, DH said we'd be there bright and early Saturday morning. Hubby called Sat. morning to get directions to the guy's house, and he told him that the car had been sold Friday evening. Why, if the seller was willing to sell on Friday, did he say that it wasn't possible?
