Considering FAMACHA

There is a goat and sheep seminar coming up in April (posted earlier about it). One of the areas that they will be teaching is FAMACHA. It looks interesting. The class will last almost 4 hours. Is this something that would be greatly beneficial to me and my farm? I would like some input before I sign up.

Most definitely. I took a FAMACHA class in 2007 and found it to be very educational.

I might be wrong on what all is entailed in FAMACHA - but as far as I know, it is a process of using a chart to determine the level - if any - of anemia in your goats/sheep based on the inner eyelid -

http://theikga.org/famacha_evaluation.html

I can't imagine why the class, if actually only addressing the above - would take more than 30 minutes or so, but it is likely still worth attending just for local goat contacts in your area

I have taken the class and I still prefer fecals over any eyelid.
