New to goats :)

Ok we are taking the plunge!!! We are proud "parents" of a new baby BOY goat (BUDDY)... I am already aware of the "lonley" issue. thats being worked on looking for a doe!!!

Our friend has goats and rescued one and it was prego.. so We are getting the baby (born 1-25-12) All she knows is the momma is a Fainter, and daddy??? , Ive been looking and (being new, could be wrong) looks like pigmy???

Here is the photos we have so far (she is in FL, and going to bring him to us March 9th! Gives us time to build a fence!! and get ready!)

I personally don't think pygmy but I could be wrong. My mom has a boer doe that looks a lot like him. He' is adorable.

Absolutely, positively adorable! If there is anything cuter than a kid (or lamb), I don't know what it is.

It IS an addiction--but a very, very good one.

He is so cute I wish I could pick him up & snuggle him! Love the white with the black ears & 4 black boots-he's, so darling!
I don't know much about Myotonic or fainter goats but do they have floppy ears?
Cause that little guy looks like he has long, floppy ears & pygmies have airplane ears.

Wish you had a better side shoot of his face/head, something in that second picture is hinting Boer to me.

He is very cute.

Fiascofarms has a great site & gives lots of info, great for newbie's & even old goat owners that need a quick look sometimes too.

Try & get a loose cattle mineral high in copper content that is also black or dark gray in color, not a red colored mineral.

If you have a Sam's Club close to you check with the bakery department. They get frostings in all different size buckets with handles & lids. We use them for feed, water buckets, etc. I even have some I use for rabbits when we butcher to put them in the fridge for a couple days.

CD & T vaccine
Vitamin B complex(just to have in case)
Cocci treatments(I use Di-Methox 12.5%-used to have the 40% here but last year everyone was out of it)
Probios paste is good to have on hand
and you'll need a wormer for just a couple goats either the Quest or Ivermectin horse paste you can use instead of buying a big bottle.

Also for a little buckling you should have Ammonium Chloride on hand, most folks don't have it when they need it.

Oh wow, Buddy is absolutely adorable! I love his markings.

I would vote for a Boer/mix sire also, the long ears and his build hint at some Boer in his ancestry. Bet he'll be a very sturdy goat when he's grown.

Welcome to the goat addiction. You're in for life now.

Yep I vote at the very least boer cross. This is the little doe I was talking about Nehi.

He is a cutie, congrats.

Are they bottling him? March 9th if he was born Jan 25th is too young to be weaned. Can she give you the mom as well? He will not take the bottle easily at that age if he has been on his mom for those 6 weeks.

If they are bottling him, and he is coming without the mom then try to find another bottle kid close to his age the weekend he comes. They will become best friends quickly.
Also ask them to band him before he comes to your place, bucklings do not make good pets, bottle or not and they can be fertile at 8 weeks old. Bottle bucklings are the worst since they pee all over themselves and then want you to pet them, oh the stink!
