Hoof Rot

Just a reminder....as some of you may know I am a "Goat Farrier", and I have seen more "hoof rot" in the last two weeks than ever before in our area. With the hugh amounts of rain many around here are having a hard time keeping their goats on dry, solid ground. Almost all of the hoofs I'm trimming are very soft and packed with manure and mud. I have worked on three different goats just this week that were walking on their knees with "rot" up in the pad that was very bad and it came on very fast.
I know everyone on here knows how to take care of their goats but...
just a friendly reminder, if you are in our wet, soggy south, with a soft, muddy pasture ya may want to check those hoofs.

I wish you lived in Ohio. I have a goat with what I believe is hoof rot. She walks fine and acts fine but her front hooves leave ALOT to be desired. I bought some hoof rot medicine, but it says it won't do any good unless the ground is dry. Who would have thought in January I would have to worry about a soft, soggy ground in Ohio.

On the list, thanks for the reminder! They all need trimming, that's the weekend plan around here

Copper bolusing helps the goat resist hoof rot, too.
