Mites?

I was trimming hooves the other day and noticed that all of my goats have tiny scabs on their lower legs, below the knees. Two of the young doelings have little scabs on their ears, too. They look like they might be bug bites, I am guessing possibly mites?

At first I thought it might just be dry skin from cold weather and needing copper (everyone was bolused when I trimmed hooves) but I don't want to take any chances with mites...

Does this sound like mites, and if so, how do I get rid of them?

A dose of Ivomec will kill most mites

This link tells alot about mites.
When my buck had them last winter I used Ivermectin plus injectable & did the first does SQ then the 2nd dose orally.
Seems like I actually did a 3rd dose 10 days later orally too because some folks here had suggested it in a thread but I can't remember for sure.

I also remember some folks saying that orally would work as well as given by injection. My buck had them pretty bad by the time I noticed because of his hair color so I thought better start him with the injection.

We treated with a 1-2 parts bleach - water solution (1 part bleach to 2 parts water). Dipped legs in this solution ever other day for about a week and then also did dose with Ivermectin. We only had two that had the mites so only treated them - nobody else was affected by them. We did a second dose of ivermectin about 1 week after the first. We use a horse wormer. Getting the legs wet during really cold winter months may not be a great idea so use your judgment for your area.

I had a goat get mites a few years ago & I used the M-T-G on his legs every other day & after the M-T-G I rubbed Ivermectin horse paste on the affected areas which were on the lower part of his back legs. Cleared him up in a couple weeks.

Pyrethrin spray daily will work, too.

Thanks for the advice (great link!). What is the dose for ivomec plus as an injection? I have only ever given it orally, and I think the dose for that is 1cc per 25 pounds. I am guessing the injection would be much less than that?

I can't remember the amount I gave SQ last winter. I used the amount reccomended by folks here.
I'll do a search in my past threads & see if I can find it.

The thread was back in 2/2011 & I tried to paste the link to the thread here but of course I am a little computor challenged sometimes!

I believe I did 1cc SQ for each 50 pounds. My buck that had them last winter is an adult Nigerian dwarf goat & if I remember right I believe I gave him like 3cc SQ. Then orally for 2 more times after that.

I had some goats that used to get really scabby legs and lose hair on their legs in the winter.

Like Cornerstone acre there I sprayed the legs with bleach and it seemed to clear up.

Usually only happened in really damp wet weather.

Also only affected one or two of my goats and their kids.

I never have it anymore so I'm not sure if the conditions have not been right, I killed it all out or that I don't have anything related to those does that were not resistant to it anymore.
