Where to order ammonium chloride?
Yesterday I noticed the buck was a little "off" acting. This morning when I let him out, he stretched, snorted, hunched his back and squeezed in his sides repeatedly. He passed pellets and when those were gone, gas. He also barely sipped any water. Took him to vet and at first, vet didn't think his bladder was full enough for a blockage, but after watching him do his "thing", he found the stone in his pizzle He said I caught it very early, so I did good there, at least.
He gets browse, grass hay and some hay stretcher cubes along with his minerals. Only pelleted food he gets is if he gets to steal some from the girls or something. Since AC seems to help with the silica type stones, which I hope his were since he wasn't getting alfalfa, etc, I need to know where to get it. Vet had some tablets for dogs and cats and I'm about to try putting 30 tablets down him They're made for small pets <sigh>
I've tried a search and know people keep it around, but I can't find any around here and have no idea the best place to order from. Help?

I have a thread on here somewhere that deals with this problem.
AC is not good at breaking it up - give him 10,000 units of vitamin C at least 3 days in a row. I followed this advice, thought that I was going to lose him and then all of a sudden the stone popped out and he just kept peeing.
If you give him a shot of B12 it will turn his urine very yellow - then you will be able to tell if any urine is making it thru.

On my first wether I tried to massage his abdomen and put on hot compresses - DO NOT DO THAT!
On the second one I put on cold compresses to take away swelling from the stone irritating the sheath. I do not know it it helped but this one made it thru.
I can send you AC - pm me if you need it. Leo lives up in your area - she might have some.

If you have an actual feed mill/elevator, just get it in 50lb bags. WAY cheap compared to ordering it and shipping it. If neccessary, split it with other goat people in your area if it's just too bulky.
My feed mill had a partial bag with like 20lbs in it, so I bought that. worked out great for me, as it has lasted me forever and I feel nice having some on hand for people if they needed some in an emergency.

I know a feed store local to me carries it - Triple B Farm Feed - (501) 332-8445
The lady in there is really nice, if nothing else she can probably tell you where you can order it from.

OK, will find a feed mill :-)
Yes, he's able to pee now, Doc made sure before he could leave and he did again on way home :-)
I could hear the pain in hubby's text when I had to tell him what had to happen. He's out of state right now.
I did find some at Jeffers but it's $14 of shipping for $6 worth of AC!
ETA I keep VitC for my doe who has a congested udder, so can give him that too! Thanks!!

I have ordered it from Jeffers or from Hoeggers but yes the shipping is higher because of the weight. The last time I bought it in a 50 pound bag from my local feed store & it's much cheaper that way & will last me a lifetime.
I also have plenty if you want me to put it in a flat rate box I can ship it tomarrow.
I had a buck get stones once & the vet cut his pizzle off & had me give him the AC in a drench for about 2 weeks. He said that even though he opened up the end of his penis by cutting off the pizzle that there were still going to be crystals inside & that the AC would help dissolve them.
Tallabred had good luck with the Vitamin C but most folks use the Ammonium Chloride.
Always good to have it on hand.
If you have Banamine that will help relax the buck so that he may pass more stones/crystals.
My goats all Love Applecider vinergar in their water & they like it warm. Just thought that may get your buck drinking more to also help flush his system.
High iron in your water may also contribute to stones, it's not always just what they eat. Does their water go through a water softner?

I know this must sound stupid to most of you, but I am seriously trying to figure out how to administer this.

When I had to give it to my buck to clear him up I dissolved it in some water & gave it to him in a needleless syringe in the mouth.
After awhile mine didn't even mind anymore.
I did find that if I added the right amount to a gallon or pitcher of water in the house, mixed it well & let it set a day or 2 the AC was dissolved better than trying to do a teaspoon or tablespoonful at a time. Otherwise if I mixed so much each day the AC wanted to settle to the bottom.

I catch rain water from the barn roof in those large black plastic minerals tubes and that's how I water my goats and catch water for watering flowers in the summer months. I have about 6 tubes on the east side of the barn and the water stays cool on the east side during the summer months.
