Good goat news thread

As usual, this board gets a flurry of crisis posts at kidding time.

I thought I'd start a thread of GOOD news!

The doe that was diagnosed with tumors last spring has weaned her kids and decided she was back in the milk string. Seriously.... she shouldered her way into the line and got up on the stand. HERE I AM, she said. She comes in the milk house every morning, and she gives me two cups. Yes, not much, but it makes her happy.

I'm milking through the tri-color MiniMancha that had quintuplets last year. She's giving over a quart per day still.

We've got kids due starting February 4, and does are bagging up! I'm so excited.

Glad to hear of your good news, Alice.

Miss Mudge is now officially dry. She is due at the end of March. I had tried earlier to dry her off (she is thin and I thought being dry the entire time she was bred might help put some meat on her bones), but she wouldn't hear of it. I'm very glad that it went so well this time.

One of our Nigie milkers is giving over a quart a day...the other 2 cups. That's good news to me

I can't WAIT to see pics, Alice. Is Jim Dandy the sire of any of the upcoming kids?

Oh, my gosh. I'm going to have to look at my notes. Is Lemon bred to Jim Dandy or to Ace? Surely it's Jim Dandy.

QUOTE]

Thank you Alice for thinking about and starting a good news thread.
Before I got goats again and while I was just lurking around here ocassionally, reading all the bad post did make me wonder if I really wanted to get goats again. When I had them before, I was not the primary caretaker for them. This time it is all up to me. I do take having any animal fenced in or caged up as a very important responsibility, that can not be neglected.

ALL NEW TO GOATS OR THINKING ABOUT GOATS SHOULD REALIZE;
If you shelter and protect your animals well, feed your animals well, give them the basic vitamins and minerals they need to be heathty; then the extra problems are usually minimal. Then you just get to have fun.
But never forget that sometimes just happens. It is similar to having children around that never grow up.

Thanks again Alice and everyone else here. I have no special new good news at this time. All is well with my little goat family.

My hard pulled hunched up sway backed doeling is straight and doing well.

Her bottle friends are the two smaller slow to start quads who are now bigger then the two I left on mom.

All the surprise lute kids 11 on dams 3 on bottles are doing well, no losses ( knock wood) all out of their little coats and being bad babies trying to eat my hair and get into mischief.

Brat made me think she was pregnant and going to suddenly pop, I wanted to cry but I am happy to report she was just being a big baby after getting her hooves trimmed. She is old enough but she had triplets 8 months ago and with all these Lute babies I do not need anymore.

Aside from any kidding season/issues people do come here for advice when problems crop up, that is part of the reason for a forum like this. If you tkae how many goats we have and total it then take how many problems are posted here I bet it is not a high percentage of issues. Goats when well fed and taken care of are pretty hardy animals. Everyone at one point runs into problems that is part of animal ownership whether it be livestock or house pets.

Yes, Nehimama, it is Jim Dandy's breeding. She's starting to look thoughtful. You know that look they get a couple of weeks ahead of time?

Great thread Alice!

I think my hubby is building me a milk stand this weekend. Not for milking though, for trimming their feet. It's going to be tall so I don't have to bend over to do it.
Since it hasn't happened yet I'll ad another good goat news, My goats and the new Mini Donk are getting along just great! They free range the property in their little pack. It's so cute I must get some pics! Gretta's bullheadedness seems to have tempered a ton. I don't know why...knocked down a notch? Or respect for a pregnant sista! Ok...that's 3 things! This made me feel good. Reading everyone's happy stories is so uplifting! Thanks Alice

Well, we're all progressing nicely here. Trub is VERY pregnant (4th freshening); Airin' is so cute with her first pregnancy.

Sold the Snubians, and I'm quite delighted with the new home. Also thrilled that we are saving $$$ on feed.

Just about a month to go until Kidding!!!

Let's see..... Snowflake is due with her second freshening on April 4. It's her first for me. She is bred to a very nice Nubian buck (luvtofarm's) who is unfortunatly no long with us. Her daughter, Flurry, is bred to a nice meaty snboebian buck for June 4.
Thats all

My guys are still doing well. All fat and happy for winter. Annie looks like a fluffy marshmallow, Smokie is a beach ball with legs, Sammy Sheep is so stout and wooly you just dig your fingers in his fleece and squeeze, it is irresistable; ------ is a large, thick and healthy fellow. I am so relieved to have no BAD news, that it is GOOD news!

Good news- Got my CAE results on Bleuberry & Sabrina, both negative!!

Have to wait until Wed for Bleu's pregnancy test results though...

Sabrina is huge, pathetic & due January 26th. She was moaning & groaning.... But the woes of late pregnancy vanished as long as both of my children were fetching her bits of grass, orange slices & animal cookies.... If they stopped or took too long, she'd resume the pitiful moaning with a few good yells thrown in Caught my daughter taking her bowls of water so she didn't have to get up, and of course Sabrina laid there as if she were owed all of this attention.

My moms 2 sets of Mini Alpine triplets are growing fast & thriving..... We got all of them disbudded with no issues & the December 13 set already has a very hearty appetite for their grain. Mom's 2 year old FF (sister to the mini I sold her) freshened with a nicely attached, pretty udder & at a lil over a month fresh she's milking 5 1/2lbs And of course you can't beat moms luck of 5 doelings, 1 bucking

Can't wait for my babies!! The 23rd is my birthday..... Wonder if I could talk Sabrina into kidding 3 days early for me so I can have birthday babies??
