Question Another goat question

Sorry for having too ask more questions on goats but need too know something.

Here we've only got 2 goats at this time which is a buck an doe so later going to get a 2 more does but we want milker does.

Here is my question. Would it be a good idea too get another buck an a young male that fixed too put with my older buck in a different field an keep the ladies away from them?

Reason want another buck as want hopeful try an get some more does if can't as my older buck seems too only throw all bucks so far.

Another buck to keep your buck company so you can separate him from the does is nice as you will know the breeding dates better. Just know that the buck and doe are use to being together so may yell for a little bit till they get use to it.

either a second buck or a wether would be fine company for your buck. If you plan to go with a wether - you can just wether a buckling yourself if you get one - no extra cost. oTOH, if you buy an unrelated buck, you give yourself more genetic diversity to breed within your herd.

I'd base my decision on what the doe throws this year - bucklings, wether and wait, doelings - start looking for a good buck and breed your own additional milkers.

If you're planning to buy better does than what you have instead of keeping your own, then I would also look for a nicer quality buck.

We're wanting too keep the ones we've got but get a few milker does later an a different buck as this buck we've got is a pygmy/Boer mix an the doe shes a sannen/Nubian mix. So for the milkers we're wanting like the no ears goats or full blooded Nubian. We can't give up the 2 we've got as had them for a good long time an just fell in love with them both. In some ways been thinking of getting a new buck an a wether also. Just so much to decide about as still go other part of fields to fence but been so sick can't do nothing but Dh has been great he order a lot of fencing stuff an it came in so at least soon he may get it put up if his work lets back up.

Lord how did you all decide what to get? Goodness me.

Lamanchas are the "no ear goats".

If your wanting to expand, get another buck & at least one more doe. Then your two boys can live together & the does can live together.

I personally don't have a reason to keep wethers unless we're growing them out for the freezer, so I prefer to have 2 bucks who can contribute something, plus keep each other company.

I agree - sell your babies and buy a good quality buck and doe breeding pair (I'm partial to nubians - and if you get a purebred nubian buck, you can use him to breed your current doe up toward american status (register the one you have as an experimental or grade - her kids by the new buck will be considered 50%)

Don't add a wether (unless you're keeping one you can't stand to eat or sell - because you'll just resent him later when he's taking the space of a "good" goat.
