I milked Oreo. I had to pin her between me and the side of her pen. It was a total "rodeo" of course but when she realized I wasnt gonna give up she calmed down some. Just as much milk ended up on the ground as in the cup, but today was to let her start getting used to it. We will go again when DH gets home so he can hold her for me. Once chilled, the milk was so rich and creamy, just a hint of a bitter aftertaste that I hope is just from colostrum since we are just a week out. If I milk twice a day it has to be 12 hours apart right? I'm so excited!

building a stand is not that hard once you decide to tackle it...not a chance I could milk my goat without one.

I always milk my wild ones out on the ground just because I don't want all that milk on the stand making it all icky and it's just easier that way for me. As soon as she figures out there's grain when you milk, she'll calm down.

I agree about the milking stand. Even a platform next to a wall with a lead+clip and a food pan is better than nothing, and will be more relaxing and calming for you both. :-)

When mine are young I put them on the stand, feed them and rub them all over belly, teats, insides of their legs and pick up their feet. When milking comes around they are pretty good about as they know nothing bad happens and they get a treat. Start em early and make it easy on yourself.

You can build this stand in about an hour, cheaply, and it's sturdy. This was my first stand for myminiatures. I did make my headgate slightly taller, & I made the legs of the stand taller.

A stand makes everything easier & cleaner.
