Lets talk tape worms
We have an issue with tape worms here. We have tried Valbazen (just made the tapes ticked off) I have tried safeguard (They laughed at me). So what do you guys use? My breeder said she uses Equimax at the 220 lb mark if not the 440 lb mark. I forgot to ask her is that one time then 10 days later? Also does anyone know how large that tube is? I have 6 I want to worm. So thoughts, opinions please.

Safeguard worked for my goats. Five times the label dose, three days in a row.
Zimecterin Gold is 1cc per 50 pounds.

Do you the safeguard for goats or horses? We've tried both but I don't think we did 5 times the dose.

goats metabolize everything different so you have to use a higher dose. How do you know it hasn't worked?

I dont know if the effects are the same in goats, but Id be wary of using Zimectrin Gold. Ive seen horses get swollen lips/gums and jaws from it. Im not sure why, but Ive seen it happen with a few different ones. So I dont use it any more.

dont over worm either, the liver and kidneys dont do well, and in an older goat or poor health this can be a distaster...we did it with a goat from the auction that was poor, just want to give you a heads up so you dont make the same mistake. I havent had much luck with Valzaben, and only use safe guard when bred (double dose). I would makesure the label specify tape worms. Could the goats have large round worms? thats more common here, and the chickens get it too! We use cydectin pour on doubble dose pour on, ivemectin pour on next go round. horse wormer usealy comes in up to 1000 or1200 lbs worth. I havent tried it on the goats yet tho. I know some who have and just give em a 200lb dose for adult.

They still have tapes. You can see them in their poop and fecal.

I prefer Zimectrin Gold too.
I have had luck dosing the horse Safeguard at 5x's the dosage & doing that for 3 days in a row. But doing that I use more than the one dose of the Zimectrin Gold. For me, the Zimectrin is more effective & cost efficient. I deworm for tapes monthly with my kids until about 5-6 months old. After that I don't bother & haven't seen tapes in my older animals.

Bad thing about tapeworms - you can treat them for it today, they can be reinfected tomorrow.

If you use the Zimectrin Gold or Quest Plus, make sure you dose for the Ivermectin/Moxidectin since the dose for Praziquantel has not been established in ruminants. Praziquantel is effective on tapes, but is not approved for ruminants.

Only Safeguard is approved for goats. We are using ALL those other dewormers off label.

Just for info - tapes don't like dill plants or carrots. (probably wouldn't use either as a sole wormer though) ewwwww I HATE TAPES!!
