Cool Copper Bolusing-How to with pictures.

I just finished a blog post a year in the making.

Why a year? Well for fair comparison, my "Before & After" pictures needed to be taken a year apart.

It's a "How To" on copper bolusing, with lots of pictures & such....

My inlaws are rolling their eyes over yet another "goat post" so I thought I'd share with y'all

Here's the link (forgive typos please...half of this was typed on my phone):

Excellent post. Thanks Crystal! I might just have to gather my courage and give it a try.

One question of clinical significance, though: do you say "nummy, nummy" in a calm voice or an enthusiastic one? I want to make sure I get it right!

ROFL!!!!

Beth, excellent question! I say "Nummy, Nummy" in sort of a sing-song, happy voice, while I violently shove a cracker or cookie in their mouth. I think the happy tone offsets the forceful action nicely..... Ya know, all things in balance.. I'm quick, & get that cookie in before they can even think about whether or not they even want it.

In my defense, I do use their favorite cookies so it's not all bad

I will have to remember the nummy nummy in a happy singing voice. First time we did it here was horrible. Well... on two of them. We have to boluse here in the next few days. So I shall let you know how it goes hehe.

Alice, I actually did try to get an action shot..... Gave my son the phone & he got a nostril shot, a shot of the back of my head & one blurry, unidentifiable shot.. So for the blog I settled for the mouth anatomy picture instead...

Trust me though, the day I can bolus a goat, while singing, & snap a good, clear picture you can bet your bottom I'll be bragging about that accomplishment

Well, I must say, I'm shocked by how much attention this post has recieved! Lots of comments & right now I'm posting here, instead of replying to my blog because I don't want to put profanity on my blog.

I have an "expert" trying to educate me on how dangerous copper is It's bad for goats and "SHEEPS"!

Oh, and did you know that the only reason I use loose minerals, bolus & other "fluff" is because I'm a "nice girl" who really likes my "pet goats" but if I ever get serious or "big" I'll look back & realize this "expert" was right!

As a new gpat person, I must thank you for the info. The feeding info was the most helpful, at this time, for me. We are getting our new, and pregnant, girls into good shape. We recieved them looking pretty poor.

So, thanks!

Awesome!!!!!!! Finally undeniable, scientific proof that "Nummy, nummy" said in a high pitched, sing song voice is crucial to the copper bolusing process!!!

Happy it all went well for you & you got everyone done

Happy to help heavyrebel. In those awful before pics on the blog, my doe was pregnant too, so I have faith you can patch up your new gals too

Thank you so much for posting this! I have been thinking about copper bolusing my goats for a while but never quite knew where to start. Brought home a new alpine doe yesterday who definetly fits the descriptions I have always read about copper defiecency.
Found your post and I now have everything I need on the way from Jeffers, including the handy pill holder.
