Covexin 8 or CD&T

Covexin 8 is the same as CD&T but covers more varieties of the Clostridia bacteria. I may not have lost my Saanen doe if she had been vaccinated with that. I have some on order, but wanted to hear more opinions before I use it. Several people around here use it so I am leaning towards using it, but I wanted to hear what all of you think.

I use it on mine because it covers Clostridium Sordelli I have a friend in my state who lost a goat to entero, and Sordelli was cultured. It does cause site reactions, so make sure you administer it far from any lymph node.

Always caused a really huge knot on my goats. Switched to CD/T w/o problems.

Have both in the fridge; we always get a lump and occasionally an abscess with covexin....

Covexin is more expensive and GENERALLY unnecessary. CDT is fine for MOST purposes. I give all my vaccines IM, so no abscesses here.

I've read some stuff recently about Covexin8 and regular CDT. The C8 has many species for cattle so won't generally apply to goats and the Tetanus in it is a smaller dose than the regular CDT. If a herd has had problems despite CDT vaccination than they should move to C8 but this is rare. Immunity levels drop to un immunized levels by 98 days so vaccination is recommended at 6 mos. intervals at least. Both types need super clean injection sites or it can pus up. So super cleaning with alcohol is needed. If it makes a cyst than re vaccination should be done.
