Has this happen to you? Shocked/mad

We went to get feed today at a store I wont mention the name of. We couldn't find any alfalfa pellets so we asked someone that works at the store if they had any more or if they knew when it would come in. After talking a little bit they said they had cubes. I in turn said I didn't want them they were to big. They said I could break them up. I said that was way to much work and its getting mix into my feed. They asked what I was feeding. I said goats. They said I have goats and there is no need to feed them that. Actually its not good for them. A little shocked I said well that's not what I have read/been told. They said well it makes them eat more (which I never heard of its true please tell me). I told them I have babies that in fact all but one is under seven month. Which they said well actually then you don't need to feed at all just hay and browse because they are already grown . I said they grow until 3 years old and they said well yeah but their inners are already grown (Or something like that). I told him well this is how we have done it for years and how my breeder does it with hers. Then he said something about they had show goats that they get from the auction . I again said well I am not changing how I do it. It works for us. They then turn to my bf and says well I bet your feed bill is way high. I started getting a little upset about this time and tried to walk away when they said something about they will have fall babies because their babies always die in the winters, and that they think its from the snakes.... in winter. As far as I know snakes don't come out in winter but okay.

There was more said but I am not going to go into more. I was shocked and a little ticked off. I am a firm believer (seeing it for my own two eyes) you get what you put in. It works for us so we are going to keep doing it.

So has anyone tried talking you into changing what works for you? Also has anyone ever heard that alfalfa pellets make a goat eat more if they eat it? Sorry if what I wrote was a little confusing its been a very very long weekend.

I AM APPAULLED!!!! HOW DARE THEY!!!!!!
I would call the manager and make a complaint! (no. pellets DO NOT MAKE THEM EAT MORE. Put a pellet in a cup of water and see what it does. It blows up...) Does in milk HAVE to have calcium or they don't make milk... or they can go into milk fever.

Donna, take a deep breath and let it go.
Read what you wrote.
They lose babies in the winter, and blame it on the snakes.
That line alone says it all.

Keep doing what you are doing and what works for you. So many feed alfalfa pellets and do great. We did.

((Hugs))

Those people are full of ..... bovine produced organic fertilizer.... if you know what I mean.

Post the name of the store and the city. We'll straighten them out. Seriously.

Write a letter and complain to the management of the store and to the distributor of whatever feed they carry (Purina, etc.) No excuse for that behavior.

I'm outraged. They've pushed my MAD button, too.

Let me at 'em.

I felt the same way. My mom told me to do the same thing. I didnt think so about the pellets either but figured I would make 100% sure. I couldn't believe they were trying to talk me out of shopping there. I mean I was spending at least 50 bucks ended up leaving early because I was so mad.

OMG my boyfriend just informed me that it was the assistant manager . The store is Atwoods in Owasso Oklahoma. I had no idea it was the assistant manager .... now I am even more shocked. I am not as mad as I was dumbfounded just I guess and feel for their poor goats.

I never trust anything anyone tries to tell me about feeding my dairy/packgoats except for people I ~know~ I can trust. I've had people try to sell me moldy hay because "it's just for goats", and such and such (county's "rich" family) family buys from them and feeds the moldy hay to their goats and donkeys all the time. *(I've got news, I was in goats way before they were buying expensive out of state boers, and bending the county Jr fair guidelines, so their kids would win at the fair!). I've had people tell me that they think it's pretty neat how you ( I am totally serious...and this was a producing dairy cow farm owner!!!!!) ...don't have to ((((water)))) a goat!". The local veterinarian always calls my does ewes and defers to treatments for sheep when I asked for advice. UGH!!!

You can't fix stupid. Not even with duck tape. You keep doing what you know you need to do for your goats and stupid people will roll their eyes and keep on losing babies to snakes...in winter...in Oklahoma

Wow. Like wow. We are feeding alfalfa pellets and quite pleased with the results so far. Hay here has been really hit or miss because of the drought. Pelleted product has made it possible to keep our starter herd this year.

We've been told the same about hay. And that goats will eat anything. I really really hope that dairy farmer doesn't have goats.

They sound like idiots, and insulting idiots at that. Buy your feed from someone else. These jerks are the type who will sell you sacks of feed that the dog lifted its leg on, thinking that goats will eat anything. Yeah, I've had that happen to me. :-/ And um, no, the goats would not eat that. grrrrr...... Took me the longest time to figure out why they were turning up their noses to one bag of feed after another...

I've never had it happen at the feedstore (they are actually wonderful and ask US .. goat questions LOL)... BUT.. I've had prospective buyers try to tell me the same garbage.. hmmm.. yet they came to MY farm, wanting to buy from MY herd.. a her that they LOVED the looks of.. but want to tell me I'm *spoiling* them and wasting money, with the way I feed?????.. LOL..

Odd how they NEVER leave my house with any goats.. it's weird, but all three times I've had this happen.. I suddenly *realize* I've gotten nothing for sale LOL...

Just let Alice have a *chat* with 'em.. she'll show them the ways of their errors LOL
